This is me — Julia. I haven’t shown myself much here, but here I am behind my camera, caught in the greenhouse glass.

I’m a designer — I create spaces and atmospheres, mostly for restaurants and hospitality. German, but somehow I ended up in England — I’d always lived in cities, fast and full of fun. Then, over a decade ago, I moved to rural Somerset, and something shifted — not just the pace, more the purpose. I found a life more connected to the seasons, to nature’s rhythm, to the beauty in ordinary days — a slower, more intentional way of living.

The foreign countryside taught me to notice, and the camera became how I keep what I find. These days it’s the garden, the kitchen, and the greenhouse in its little walled corner — my secret green space that’s become the heart of it all. I grow things, cook them, photograph them. Food is at the centre of it — the growing, the making, the gathering around the table.

The Art of Light — Day 10: An Open Theme

Ferns in the woods. Dappled light, sunrays falling through the trees. I love how nature composes its own scene. This is where I find my inspiration.

Ten days of chasing light and shadow — Sometimes I just I found it and sometimes I shaped it. Along the way it taught me to look differently. Light is always the star of the stage ✨

The Art of Light — Day 8: After Dark

A courtyard in Italy, seen from above. At night it becomes something completely different — outdoor space turning interior, lit like a stage, dramatic and intimate at once. Spots of light and a quiet glow — outside turns inside - protected, safe. I love how the dark rooftops frame it from above 💛🧡💙

The Art of Light — Day 2: Shadows and Silhouettes

Chasing shade at @thenewtinsomerset I have a long love for greenhouses — that structured ceiling, plants reaching for the glass, and the sun painting shadows across the floor and up the walls. Light and shadow in slow, unhurried dialogue — all day long 🌿

Dahlias are my favourite flowers, here at my favourite time of the day - caught in the last of the summer glow. I love how their warm bronze and golden colours glow in the soft evening light. There’s something so peaceful about the garden at this time of day 🌸🌿

A little late-summer colour from the greenhouse.
It’s been such a good year for tomatoes — they absolutely loved the heat. I grew so many different varieties this summer, with such a beautiful range of colours, flavours and sweetness.

FoodArtProject challenge: day one first light.
I do love love golden raspberries not only because they are honey sweet also because the birds don’t spot them as easily! This year the harvest was small but I saved a few for this little good morning breakfast bowl.
