📚💛We’re excited to share some updates with our Rooted MKE community! 📚💛

Thanks 🙏🏾 to your unwavering support, we’ve been able to continue spreading the joy of reading to children and families in Milwaukee. We’re grateful to be a part of this community and are looking forward to connecting and growing with you at our upcoming community gatherings at Rooted MKE.

And we’re thrilled to announce our non-profit side of the business, Rooted in Community, which allows us to continue our mission-based work of promoting literacy and diversity in children’s literature.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to build a more inclusive world through the power of books! 🌍✨

@MilwaukeeBusinessJournal thank you for this honor. I found out late last week that I was awarded the Diversity in Business in the Micro Company category for my work within @Rooted.MKE

Receiving the honor came a couple of days before my post seeking community support. As a leader, I have always led with a spirit of service and humility. When starting Rooted MKE and leaving my amazing @bgcmilwaukee family, I prayed for vision, strength, wisdom and courage. I prayed that the path would be lit and for direction when the light wasn't shining as bright.

I am thankful for this award. I don't know what Rooted MKE will look like months from now, but I know that whatever form it takes, I will continue to lead with a spirit of servitude, collaboration and hope.

Are my dreams for Black and Brown youth in my City ambitious, absolutely. The need to support them is great. I never rest too long on my accomplishments because there are always more goal posts to meet. But this one, I'm going to bask in for a bit.

To my City, the support and love we have received over the past week is felt, seen and real. We are fielding all of the emails (behind the "we" curtain stands me, my mom and a few volunteers), making lists, prioritizing and strategizing next steps and will be in communication with each and every one of you soon.

For this all, God I thank you!

The secret to doing well in business is to not have secrets at all. Relationships foster opportunities for shared resources, a sense of well-being, and positive kinetic energy within the community.

In the spirit of sustainability, Kinetic Coaching’s @coach_krystle_rogers believes in building and nurturing meaningful relationships because “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together” - African Proverb.

In the same spirit, we are proud to partner with Kinetic Coaching to provide our space as the location for @coach_krystle_rogers upcoming session on The Keys to Success in Entrepreneurship. Join us on May 22nd at 5:30pm and leave with clarity, resources, and a framework for success.

Where we decide to send our children for school impacts their educational perspective and how they view themselves. It is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages that may come from attending particular schools.

We all want our kids to receive a quality education. We also want them to be cultured where they have an understanding of other cultures. However, we also want our children to have an accurate and dignified understanding of who they are.

Bookstores are essential community hubs. They offer community members a place to connect, exchange/share ideas and engage in discussion around literary works.

Our children can benefit from these community spaces tremendously. Rooted MKE provides a space for children and families to congregate, purchase books and foster a continued love for reading, especially for BIPOC.

“Spreading joy and literacy, one spin cycle at a time! 🌀📚 Had the most incredible time at the grand opening of a new Laundromat in partnership with @laundrycaresfoundation and The Office of Early Childhood @mightysmallmoments . Big shoutout to OECI for helping us gift 50 families with something special!
Remember, every place is a space for learning, from schools to laundromats, and it’s our mission to fill these spaces with books as diverse as the wonderful families that visit them. Watching Rooted MKE flourish and connect with such incredible people constantly leaves me speechless.
🌱 Your support for small businesses like ours fuels this dream and makes all the difference. Let’s keep the momentum going!

We had an amazing time celebrating Vel Phillips along with @mayorofmilwaukee Cavalier Johnson, @djlolo_mke and @milwaukeeart
Vel Phillips was a trailblazing civil rights activist and politician, whose relentless advocacy paved the way for social change in Milwaukee and beyond. Thanks to her courageous efforts to combat racial segregation and promote fair housing, Rooted MKE can thrive today, embodying the spirit of equality and inclusivity that she championed throughout her lifetime. Her legacy continues to inspire generations to strive for justice and equality in our communities.
Thank you Vel Phillips
It was an honor to celebrate your legacy, in community
