Have you ever noticed your social needs completely flip after a major life move? Let’s talk about the NRI return to India.
In the US, friends were our survival, our family, and our only cure to the loud isolation of the suburbs. I used to go out of my way to build connections and celebrate every festival just to feel grounded. Since moving back, I’ve felt this strange, settling peace of just... being. No forced weekend plans. No over-performing my culture. Just letting the natural hum of the society fill my cup.
Are we just socially satiated by the environment here, or is our expat exhaustion finally catching up to us? Let me know if you’ve felt this too. #usatoindia #SocialBattery #SlowLiving #ExpatExhaustion #protectyourenergy by @rootednrebuilt

When was the last time you gave yourself permission to do absolutely nothing after a major life shift? If you are still catching your breath from a big move or unpacking the last of those boxes, this is your sign to step away into the quiet and just let the dust settle.#Coorg #MonsoonInIndia #SlowLiving #CoffeeCapital #coorgmarriott taken in COORG - The Scotland Of India by @rootednrebuilt

From an empty rental to a functioning home in 48 hours! 📦
Starting from absolute scratch is overwhelming, but experiencing this “New India” has been incredible. It is so different from what we left behind 15 years ago. From the resort-style living with waterfronts and morning yoga, to the deep civic sense where everyone takes pride in their space—it’s been a beautiful welcome.
Setting up the house was a mix of high-speed chaos (hello, 200 Blinkit and Amazon orders!) and slow, traditional joy. Spending the afternoon picking out steel katoris and a chapati box by hand in Jayanagar was the perfect balance.
With immediate support from building WhatsApp groups and neighbors, getting life started isn’t so hard. All you need is a weekend! 💛

They call it the “air-conditioned city” for a reason. 🍃 Coming from California, I never thought I’d find weather that could steal my heart, but Bangalore’s 4 PM breeze is pure magic. #Bangalore #NammaBengaluru #Relocation #BangaloreWeather #CaliforniaToIndia LifeInBangalore taken in Bengaluru,Karnataka by @rootednrebuilt

The Subconscious time zone shift! The physical move is done, but my subconscious mind is still operating on Pacific Time. 🕰️
For years in the US, my mornings were anchored by calling my parents in India right before they went to sleep. It was a muscle memory. Now that I’m waking up in Bangalore, my brain still fires off that same morning signal: “Reach out to your people.” I’m still trying to find the rhythm. Do we just become “weekend catch-up” people now? 🤍

They don’t tell you that the heaviest boxes you pack are the ones filled with a decade of memories. 📦
Well, the packing is done. The house is quiet.

Here is to the messy, beautiful space between the life we are leaving behind, and the one we are about to build. 🇮🇳✈️
