Introducing Seeds & Story Time 🌱📚📖

I’m so excited to finally share this new offering with our community. 🫂

Seeds & Story Time is a multicultural gathering, centering the next generation, where we’ll explore the world through stories, creativity, nature, and connection.

Each month, we’ll invite community members to share stories, traditions, songs, or activities from their own cultures. Our hope is to create a space where children grow up celebrating not just the beauty of their own culture, but also the diversity of the communities around them.

After each story, we’ll enjoy a hands-on activity inspired by what we’ve learned- whether that’s planting seeds in the garden, creating art, exploring nature, or making something together.

🌺 I’m currently looking for families, guest storytellers, artists, educators, elders, and culture bearers who would love to co-create this space that reflects their heritage or community. If that sounds like you (or someone you know), I’d love to connect! Please see the link in my bio to explore the different ways you can help support the next generation.

Many of us have embarked on our search for a connection to our roots, trying to remember what was never passed down to us.

We search through books, the internet, and whatever pieces of our culture we can find. But so many of these answers live beyond that. It lives through the elders who carry it, the communities that practice it, and the traditions passed from one generation to the next.

Gunita, or Recollection is a learning series created to make this knowledge more accessible.

Through conversations and educational opportunities with our elders and cultural knowledge holders, we create space to learn directly from those who actively live and practice our traditions.

You do not have to navigate this journey alone. The opportunity to learn is here.

Over the past few years, I’ve realized that what we’re creating is bigger than a single event. these are spaces for the different parts of ourselves and for our babies to grow into

Rooted Together is a space for our community to gather, learn, create, and reconnect. Reconnect with the land, with our cultures, and with one another.

Here you’ll find:

📚 Seeds & Storytime: storytime and nature-based activities for children
🌌 Gunita: remembering Traditions and culture of The Philippines
🌕 Moon Circle: monthly healing circle and soundbath for adults

Whether you’re coming to plant something, hear a story, learn a new skill, teach and share with our community, or simply meet new people, there’s a place for you here.

I hope this becomes a space where neighbors become friends, stories and teachings are shared across generations, and we remember that we’re all rooted together 🫂

The conversation you are longing for exists.

This is for the one who is being pulled to dig deeper within our culture. The parts that we all thought were lost, a thing of the past, or only documented in books (written by others). This is not an interpretation, or from an outside lens.

We humbly ask our community to sit and learn with us 🤎 we are prioritizing accessibility for those willing and wanting to learn.

last night’s womb circle was a space where we got to unapologetically speak. Not just to talk but to be heard. Addressing cycles that NEED to be broken. And sharing how we can do this together. There’s still more than enough room to learn and teach and grow.

Mana.

Some things are hard to put into words. You don’t always see them, you just feel them.

That’s what I felt at this Tahitian storytime. Two beautiful storytellers shared some of the well known stories and myths of Polynesia, and throughout the afternoon, there was so much more to experience like games, crafts, food, treats, and people sharing the things they’re passionate about.

What I enjoyed most was seeing so many people share what they love: their stories, knowledge, creativity, and culture. There was this feeling of connection and something bigger than ourselves that I kept coming back to, the kind of feeling I think of when I hear the word mana.

Since my daughter and I dance Polynesian, experiences like this have helped me look beyond the movement and appreciate more of what surrounds it: the stories, people, traditions, and connections that give it meaning.

Grateful for the people who shared a little piece of their world with us.

Thank you to my kaibigan, @morenamama_ , from @rootedtogether_community, for hosting such a meaningful cultural event and creating a space to learn, connect, and share.

And thank you to @vahinevahitu from @protect.i.tuamotu and Hinanui at @risethefenua for sharing your beautiful stories and knowledge with us.

Also, thank you to @tahitianchickenguy for introducing us to your cute chickens and eggs, and to @momonatreats for the delicious treats. I’m sorry I didn’t get enough good footage to include you in the video, but I’m grateful we got to experience it all in person.

Normalize connecting with the land and with your neighbors again!!! 🌱🤞🏾

Thank you to everyone that gave us the opportunity to share our blessings this season. It was so dope to know that even though many of us are on different paths, we all have a shared love for the land, real food, and good company. Thank you for creating these spaces and memories with us!

This is the end of this seasons offerings! We’ve planted more seeds and plan on continuing this growth alongside yall. 🤎

“I am Jane Doe”

With everything happening right now, many of us may be feeling anger, grief, fear, or old wounds being brought back to the surface.

This womb circle is a space to come together and acknowledge what we’re carrying. whether that comes from sexual violence, violation, loss, shame, anger, or other experiences that have affected our relationship with our bodies and wombs.

We’ll gather in community to acknowledge those experiences and feelings. Then, we will each connect with herbs for a communal steam and sound bath.

You do not have to share anything you’re not ready to share. You can come to speak, listen, release, or simply be in community and hold these stories
