REPOST - @science__sphere 🧬 A cannabis-linked receptor may reveal a new way to slow breast cancer spread — but this is still early science.

Researchers focused on CB2R, a cannabinoid receptor involved in immune and inflammatory signaling.

Using human and mouse breast cancer organoids, they found that a brief, ultra-low-dose cannabinoid treatment could push tumor cells into a more stable, less aggressive identity.

The treated cells showed reduced invasiveness, weaker self-renewal, and lower tumor-starting ability.

In mouse experiments, these effects persisted after transplantation. Tumors formed later, grew more slowly, and showed less aggressive features.

The treatment also appeared to make some breast cancer cells more responsive to tamoxifen, a common hormone therapy.

This does not mean cannabis treats breast cancer. It does not support self-medicating with THC.

Instead, it points to CB2R as a possible future target for therapies that make cancer cells less plastic and harder to spread.
