Fresh tuna isn’t just about protein...

Most people know salmon is rich in omega-3… but did you know fresh tuna contains these beneficial fats too?

While it doesn’t provide as much omega-3 as oily fish like salmon, mackerel or sardines, fresh tuna still contributes valuable EPA and DHA, alongside high-quality protein that helps keep you fuller for longer.

Pair it with avocado and you’ve got a simple dish that combines:
🥑 Heart-healthy monounsaturated fats
🥑 Fibre for gut health
🐟 Lean protein
🐟 Omega-3 fats to support heart and brain health

It’s a reminder that healthy eating isn’t about chasing “superfoods”, it’s about bringing together nutritious ingredients that work well together.

Tuna Tartare Recipe
(Thank you @rootsintheloire)

Ingredients

Sushi-grade fresh tuna, cut into even-sized cubes (discard any sinew or gristly bits)
Chopped spring onions or chives
Finely chopped fresh jalapeño, red chilli or a pinch of chilli flakes
Diced avocado, tossed in a squeeze of lemon or lime juice

For the dressing…taste as you go!

2 tbsp reduced-salt soy sauce (I use @kikkomanuk)
1 tbsp rice vinegar or sushi seasoning
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp grated fresh ginger (or ½ tsp ground ginger)
1 tsp sesame seeds

Whisk together all the dressing ingredients. Gently fold through the tuna along with the spring onions (or chives) and chilli. Leave to marinate for 10–15 minutes.

Divide the avocado between serving glasses or bowls, then spoon the tuna tartare on top.

Finish with an extra sprinkle of sesame seeds and chives, if you like and serve immediately.

Tip: Always use sashimi or sushi-grade tuna when serving it raw.

Save this recipe for your next summer lunch, dinner party starter or light supper.

👇 Have you ever made tuna tartare, or would you usually order it in a restaurant?

Feeling extra grateful for gorgeous summer evenings like these after the heatwave ☀️ by @rootsintheloire

W’s bday weekend 💕 Wasn’t quick enough to capture the dolphins which were incredible. Less incredible - the record number of jellyfish and this oppressive heatwave 🌊
