The days grow longer until day is equal to night at vernal equinox - reminding us the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness shall not overcome the Light! Spring equinox 2025 arrives sandwiched between last week’s full moon 🌕 lunar eclipse and the solar eclipse on the next new moon 🌑 - and during Saturn’s foray from sidereal Aquarius into Pisces. I have honed working in the liminal space, with the emergent which used to terrify me, for many years. In 2021, I prayed in a yurt on land sacred to the Ute, Diné and Apache outside of Cleveland, New Mexico during a youth leadership training for an environmental justice organization I was supporting at the time. I prayed to heal my ancestry, to repair the karma of theft, violence, and forced relocation inflicted by ancestors, to “jump timelines” into one in which I was reconnected to the land, my community, and my Self. While nothing seemed to happen instantly because of my fervent and ceaseless prayers, within one year I had discovered both sides of my lineage, of my father’s and mother’s ancestry, and had the names of 9 generations of my grandmothers: Marjorie, Myrtle, Evarena, Lise, Christiane, Mariane, Kirstin, Maren, and Margrethe.

Within 2 years, I had retraced Lise and Christiane’s voyage across the Atlantic, to the motherland of the North Jutland, and the little town of Elling, Denmark. I took my own journey to Trondheim, Norway with my daughter for an intensive 5-day immersion into Norse Shamanism and visited the Elling Kirke and burial grounds of my ancestors in Denmark.

Within 3 years, I began practicing Seidr, ancient Norse magic, learning from my teacher Betsy Bergstrom and her teacher Annette Høst, reclaiming animist relationships with Nature as holy, full of life force, and spirit, that was lost to my ancestry with forced conversion - by kings seeking to consolidate power and resources through allegiance to Christianity.

Today, I work with the ancient technologies of my ancestors, weaving them with the intelligence of Ayurveda, for the benefit of those who are ready. It has taken many, many years to reclaim the healing work I do, healing the witch wound in my European ancestry, finding grace and forgiveness and the courage to name the work I do as a wise-woman and lineage holder.

We are nearing the end of of the season of the sacred pause, from the Mōdraniht, Mother’s Night, the night before Winter Solstice, through Epiphany, Three Kings Day, celebrated on January 6th. During this “time outside of time” Venus and Saturn, Jupiter and Mars, and the Moon, from full to new to crescent waxing and growing full again, have featured prominently in the sky. Listen deeply my love, to the wisdom of the stars, to the whisperings of the Earth, to the songs of your Ancestors, for during this sacred pause, these Holy Nights, you can hear the messages intended for you more clearly than at other times of the year. While the world wants us to buy and consume and return, exchange and consume ever more manically at this time of the year, it takes sustained effort to slow down, to honor the sacred pause, and to listen through the stillness of a forest blanketed in snow. This is a glimpse into my life, behind the healing work I do, the motivation for my work. This season I have celebrated fully the fruits of the spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control… while tending my hearth fire, laughing with my nearly grown adult children, drawing close to my parents and the wisdom of my elders, cooking together and loving my life partner and husband, making magic, celebrating with song and silence.

Healing into the wholeness that has always been yours is a lifelong journey. I've walked this path and I celebrate the journey with you this holy season.

After 14 years of practice, THIS is sukha - embodied joy and bliss! I have been working with co-creatrix Sabrina Dokas at @lalita_soma for the past 9 months to birth utterly new deep-dive immersive experiential pathways to healing.

Together, we weave gorgeous, messy, authentic and emergent journeys into healing and wholeness for our beloveds, those brave ones who own their power, their shit, and their healing. Monsoon season is upon us in Colorado, and we are blessed this year with recent and regular afternoon thundershowers. The thunder always recollects the Thunder Beings, or Wakinyan in Lakota, with their strength which builds along the Front Range of the Rockies and roll out over the prairie bringing a light show and rhythmic thunder dance, along with heavy drops of rain. Thunder also calls to mind my Norse ancestors’ relationship with Thor, god of thunder, son of Óðinn, and Gríðr, his mother, herself an embodiment of Earth. At the winter solstice, Óðinn was honored, at midsummer, my ancestors celebrated Thor…. In the practice of Ayurveda, one honors the turning of the seasons by the practice of ritucharya, seasonal rituals or regimens, to balance the tridosha, or the ever shifting tension between the elements, of which we are embodied. From the Winter Solstice in late December through the Summer Solstice in late June, the sun makes its way northward on the western horizon, and grows in strength and intensity. In the heat of the summer, at the peak of Uttarayana, the first half of the year, from Winter to Summer Solstice, the heat of agni (fire) and the drying qualities of vayu (wind or air) increase until they dominate, drying out the landscape and ripening the fruits which continue to grow on the vine, trees, and in the crops. So today, amidst my work with clients, let me gently remind you to take a little time and make space to acknowledge where we are in the calendar of the year. On Life and Death

I've been in the Pacific Northwest helping navigate decisions about end-of-life care, hospice, and the transition and finality of the death portal.

As a woman and mother, who understands the process of how the body transitions through death, and who recognizes the function and role of spirit and soul, I have practiced observing how family members’ cope with their loved one’s decline. I’ve watched as friends and family explain (to themselves and each other) that the visions one has during this transition period are chemical imbalances in the brain, related to heart failure and lack of blood and oxygen. And yes, the physical, the mental, and the spiritual, work in tandem, in a beautifully orchestrated symphony of coherence, or sometimes, in excruciating family dysfunction, in incoherence.

The visions or hallucinations our loved one experiences, during the transition period from life to death, from my humble perspective, are the spirit’s initial foray into shifting and expanded consciousness, as the spirit prepares to separate from, and eventually leave the body.

Ayurveda recognizes that the doorway through which the spirit exits creates its own set of karmas (actions and reactions) and seals samskaras (mental formations or impressions) which collectively influence future karma. The goal in the transition period, from life through the portal of death, is to create a peaceful and sattvic environment, so the spirit can exit through the body’s upper channels or the higher chakras, setting up the spirit for a soul journey that is elevated and supported by high frequency and vibration, rather than debased, and low.

Instead of fighting death, we can choose to peacefully transition, and embrace the journey to the afterlife.
