Our first school visit is officially in the books!
Roots to College had the opportunity to speak with seniors at Lionel Wilson in East Oakland about college, mentorship, and what it means to navigate higher education as first-generation students. The purpose of Roots to College is not just to provide information, it is to connect Oakland students with current college students who can offer honest, firsthand guidance on what the college application and transition process is like. This is just the beginning.

A little bit about me, my roots, my college journey, and my why.

Attending a college or university can be life-changing in so many ways, and it’s an experience I believe everyone who wants to pursue it should have the opportunity to access. Yet, so many barriers can stand in a student’s way.
