End of an Era 💙✨The Old Abbey Taphouse has been in the heart of South Manchester and has absolutely championed community over the last few years we must protect that at all costs 💎 This venue has changed my life and many others in this area. The history of this building runs deep I first connected with the venue in 2020 when I first learnt about Len Johnson. Len walked into this pub in 1953 and was refused service because of his skin colour but as a true fighting man he returned with over 200 local protesters 🪧 Black and white UNITED against racism and overturned the colour bar policy in this pub. 70 years later we have inhabited this space with a black led event celebrating black history and culture and championed local talent mostly from the diaspora 🖤✨ We are SO grateful to all the crowds and of course the talented artists we have had at our shows. We have created memories to last a lifetime and will always look back with fond memories this might be the end of Old Abbey journey for now whilst the doors shut down. But best believe the Len Johnson story and legacy will live on for many years to come and when the statue is a reality this building and this event has been a massive part of the campaign.
