These custom tumblers made by @the.spooky.bootique are so sick. Each picture is from a significant event in our lives. Hers, is walking opening night at @vancouverindigenousfashionweek for @chokecherrycreek. Mine is from filming with @anthillfilms for The Engine Inside. Both pics are on each cup. These will make sure we are hydrated and coffeed up for quite a while. Big thanks to @the.spooky.bootique for these. by @roque.jay

The second character in my new portrait series, “Old Kids.”
Jay Bearhead.
I’ve wanted to start a formal portrait series for a number of years. The biggest thing holding me back was worrying about taking up people’s time, or that I’d waste people’s time while trying to figure out what I want for framing.
As portraiture has slowly become more important to me, I’ve worked through these worries by creating little shooting systems for myself, and simply going for it.

To my surprise, whenever I’ve asked someone to feature in this series… they’ve been ecstatic. That sure helps ☺️

The concept is simple - create a mix of intimate and environmental portraits of people playing. Play is extremely important to me, and I’ve grown fascinated with the way it helps us age gracefully. An unintentional double meaning I stumbled upon once embarking on these shoots, was that I’m very deep in play, myself, while capturing the characters.

On this particular evening, Jay played me a few of his favourite drum songs and sang into the hills. It was a concrete sky kind of night, but the clouds ripped open just enough for a soft diffused glow to hit Jay. I told him I thought it was magic. He told me we are magic, and that everything we appreciate in nature is simply us, reflecting back at ourselves.

It was right about then I became 100% confident that I was not wasting time on this series.

You can see this images and more, in larger format, on my website. Www.dylansherrard.com/oldkids

Thank you 🖤
