And I can’t wait to share a time slot with my dear friend @the.curiosity.cupboard ☺️ I absolutely love a flat lay on Fridays, and have been enjoying curating them since the start of my shop a few years ago. A group of us who share a love of this creative storytelling are coming together Thursday night to bring them to you live! Lenna’s first antique store! 🥹🤍 I’m taking my little antiquing buddy to her first 20 antique stores while I’m on maternity leave, and our first stop was The Bedford Collective in Bedford, NY! @thecollectivebedfordhills We found SO many beautiful things, and loved taking in the vignettes including these from @coleville_home, @naniandpope and @ginghamandgable! We brought two pieces home, this adorable stone floral for our guest room dresser from our friend @foragedfathoms and this deep chocolatey bowl from @oh_its__sara! I regrettably had to leave behind these two amazing paintings that I’m still thinking about. They’re so good. 💔 19 more stores to go! Where should we visit next? I found three very old handwritten cookbooks, and I need your help deciding what to do with them! 👀 They belonged to a Minnie Woodruff of Woodstock, Vermont, who appears to have collected recipes from family and friends, including “Cousin Jennie’s Tea Biscuits,” “Mrs. Montague’s Fruit Cake,” and “Miss Parloa’s Angel Cake,” along with recipes written on old personal and business letterhead. 🥹 I love the idea of keeping these little collections of recipes intact, but how sweet would a favorite recipe look beautifully matted and framed in a kitchen?! What would YOU want to see in the shop? I love these styled together or scattered into a collected tabletop. 4.5” × 4.5” | $48 + ship C. Vintage Inlaid Bird & Landscape Box Sweet little wooden box with intricate inlay depicting a bird, flowers and landscape. Hide a little something inside or use it for styling. 5.5” × 3.5” × 2.5” | $40 + ship D. Textured Vintage Still Life An unsigned, unframed still life with the BEST texture and palette: deep blue, green, citron and coral. Found at an incredible artist’s estate, and there’s a fun story hiding in the painting… look at E. 👀 14.5” × 12” | $145 + ship E. Vintage French Biot Blue Glazed Pottery Dish Okay, THIS is so cool. I found this marked Biot pottery dish at the same estate sale as the still life above…and realized the artist painted this exact dish into the painting! 🥹 Deep blue glaze, a single handle and beautiful age and wear. I’d love to see these two stay together and styled in a kitchen. 15.5” L × 11.5” W with handle; 7.75” W without | $125 + ship F. 🌿SOLD🌿 Vintage Solid Brass Grasshopper Movable legs and such a fun little sculptural object tucked onto a stack of books or shelf. 5.5” × 3” | $35 + ship G. 🌿SOLD🌿 Mini Vintage Alabaster Bird Bath Tiny and SO good. Carved alabaster with beautiful gray veining and very minimal flea bites from age. Its original little birds are no longer present, but I love it all on its own or holding a little fleur de sel. 3.5” × 2” | $95 + ship H. 🌿SOLD🌿 Pair of Antique Indian Brass Peacock Candlesticks An ornate matching pair with sculptural peacocks, pierced fan tails and beautifully engraved bases. My tiniest sourcing partner’s second estate sale 🥹🤍 Yesterday we stayed close to home and wandered through an estate sale put on by @zachandalix in one of the beautiful old houses on Main Street here in Ridgefield, CT, with my friend Angela at @theunforgettablehome! 🌿SOLD🌿 THE OBSESSION: An Antique Seascape by Theodor Victor Carl Valenkamph (1868–1924) 🌊 Every once in a while I find a piece that feels especially significant, and this is one of them. “Sailing off the Rocky Coast,” an original oil on canvas by Swedish-American marine painter Theodor Victor Carl Valenkamph (1868–1924). Born in Stockholm, Valenkamph served for eight years in the Swedish Navy, where he had the opportunity to study ships, the movement of the sea and changing weather firsthand. He later immigrated to the United States, settling in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and became known for his remarkably atmospheric marine paintings. He was a member of the Boston Art Club and exhibited there in the early 1900s. This particular work is such a beautiful example of what drew me to his paintings. The composition is dominated by the force of the water itself: waves breaking against an enormous rocky outcropping, sea spray catching the light, gulls suspended above it all, and the little boat. Up close, the texture is incredible, with thick, almost sculptural passages of paint giving the breaking waves a real sense of movement. Signed T.V.C.
