I found a burned CD I had of Yusuf/Cat Stevens and have been absorbing it lately. He has a lot of beautiful songs that are in my vocal range so here is my first real stab at my favorite tune of his, “Father and Son”. A few rough patches aside, I think I got through it.

Seeing Circle Jerks at the Brooklyn Bowl was so epic. Keith Morris is a total legend of punk rock and his banter was great. They stopped to show to kick out a few nazis who were throwing blows in the pit. Could be my last concert in Las Vegas for a few years since I am moving to the east coast soon. Great way to end a chapter of live music outings.

Part of what I did with my day off today was relearn a Lindsey Buckingham song called “Trouble”. Buckingham is known for his work in Fleetwood Mac and without him, they would not have been as popular or interesting to listen to. He has an amazing fingerstyle technique on the guitar and this song has a lot of strange finger moves in both the left and right hands. This song will make your hands hurt afterwards but it is a great one to get down. The song structure is simple and so are the lyrics but the guitar and vocal melody are amazingly creative and hard to pull off. Check out his live acoustic versions of this one as well as his 1981 studio recording. The original recording has some great backing vocals and arrangement. I just wish he would have left out the goofy count in part lol. He ranks up there as one of the best guitarists to come out of the Bay Area. Him and Jerry Garcia are the top two imho.

I’m 200 pages into book #7 of The Dark Tower by Stephen King. His magnum opus. It’s by far his most fantastical work that I’ve read and it deals with time travel, hopping between different dimensions along with some great sci-fi and horror fiction. I can see why they cancelled their plans to turn it in to a movie series, you just can’t replicate what he does in the book in to film. The movie they tried to do with Idris Elba was horrible but the first book in the series is by far the most abstract of the books. You gotta get to book #2 to get in to it.

Anyways, I think I read book #1 two or three years ago so after reading bit by bit, here I am almost done with the series. I am ready to go back to Infinite Jest or some other author, but I am excited to find out how King ends the book. I will take time off from King until I pick up Wind Through the Keyhole, which is part of the series but the last book about it that he wrote which takes place in the middle of the story. Again, he jumps through time a lot in this story but thats what makes it interesting. Also, it helps a lot if you’ve already read, IT, Insomnia, the Stand and Salem’s Lot. I haven’t read Salems lot and only got half way through IT when I was a teenager. I plan to read those two later on in life.

All that being said, my favorite King books are probably Misery, Shining, Mr Mercedes trilogy and Pet Sematary. Which really have nothing to do with Dark Tower, aside from Jake’s ability to shine.
