Moderated by She Writes Press publisher Brooke Warner, this panel invites us to explore the moments that break us open and the unlikely places where healing takes root. Each of these memoirs reminds us that growing up isn’t something that happens only in childhood, and that our mothers, for better or worse, are the first maps any of us are given to navigate ourselves and our lives.

My mother was Catholic, but when I told her I loved Jesus and wanted to be a nun, she slapped me across the face.

I still have my mother’s crystal rosary beads...my last link to Catholicism.

In case you missed it, I was recently on the Virago 24/7 podcast with the lovely and gracious Lyanette Talley, @virago24_7.

We dig into the Diamond Approach and how inquiry, meditation, and modern psychology can help us separate personality conditioning from our essential qualities like love, strength, compassion, and peace. Then we get personal about boundaries with a difficult parent, motherhood guilt, making amends, and grief that doesn’t disappear but can transform as love continues.
