Last days to visit Thailand Biennale Phuket!
Found something special in installing the Rubber Works in Pompool mall in the city of Phuket — a ghostly abandoned mall in an alive neighbourhood reflecting on changing cities’ economy -its circular windows opening to the street, viewing the slow movements of a red light district by day.
The Rubber Works felt completely at home there, and the female stories they evoke could dialogue both with visitors and the city.
Also it was the first time, even if installed in an inside space, the rubber sheets would gently move with wind and air circulation, making the ghostly evocation of the character feel even more present! It was a technical challenge, to let them be alive and moving without fall or unwrapping, but we made it. So beautiful to witness.

Thank you all fellow artists for sharing art and time in Phuket, curators, the amazing docents guiding visitors into the artworks’ stories and background, Supernormal, and all the biennial team.

This Friday, 25 September, I’ll be in conversation with philosopher @aaronschusterov at the Anatomical Theatre of @ificantdance_ in collaboration with the @rijksakademie

The conversation celebrates the publication of The Trial, my decade plus-long project, and will be interwoven with a video from the work, followed by a collective performative reading of the trial transcripts.

This is a very special moment for me: returning to Amsterdam to speak about this project, where it was first presented during my Rijksakademie Open Studio in 2010! Since then, The Trial has travelled through many countries and spaces, including MAXXI in Rome, dOCUMENTA 13, e-flux in New York, WIELS in Brussels, and, most recently, Castello di Rivoli in Turin, among many others.

The Trial began with the materials of the landmark “April 7th” trial, held in Rome in 1983–84 against members of the Italian leftist movement Autonomia Operaia, including philosophers Toni Negri and Paolo Virno. Over more than a decade, I have worked with the trial’s sound recordings, architectural and spatial elements, documents, and the former defendants, revisiting and rearticulating the work across different contexts.

The book chronicles this long process and reflects on how political memory is carried, translated and embodied across time.

In the conversation with Aaron, we will also reflect on what it means for an artist to work with historical and political material, and on the resonance of this trial today.

Last day to see The Prison of Santo Stefano currently presented in Vleeshal Collectie On Tour, celebrating 50 years of Vleeshal.

The work is made from a thin lead sheet which has been banged to collect the impressions of a cell in the former Santo Stefano prison - a 1792 panoptical building in the island of Santo Stefano, Italy. The work was part of a lager installation which included various lead sculptures and three videos that reflect on confinement, surveillance and the architecture of institutional power.

Curated by Vivian Ziherl. On view at Museum Het Bolwerk, IJzendijke, until 13 September 2026.

The current presentation is part of Vleeshal Collectie On Tour, running across ten locations in Zeeland to celebrate Vleeshal’s 50th anniversary. The work was acquired in original 2012 and part of my solo show Island at De Vleeshal curated by Lorenzo Benedetti.

Together with the @rijksakademie, we are excited to invite you to an evening celebrating 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶’s long-term project 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡, which began during the artist’s residency at the Rijksakademie in 2010/11 and has now been published as a book by @moussemagazine. In a conversation with philosopher 𝗔𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, the artist will reflect on the significance of the project and its resonance today.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 centres on the landmark “April 7th” trial, held in Rome in 1983–84 against members of the Italian leftist movement Autonomia Operaia, which notably included public intellectuals such as Toni Negri and Paolo Virno. Rossella Biscotti has worked extensively with the materials of the trial, revisiting and rearticulating them across different contexts.

The publication chronicles the development of this seminal project, offering a mutable framework for engaging with political history, collective memory, and the performative nature of justice. At the core of the book is the English transcription of a six-hour audio piece, composed from hundreds of hours of archival recordings of the trial, broadcast by Radio Radicale. Edited as a theatrical script, the transcripts become a polyphonic narrative that foregrounds the political voices of the defendants in opposition to the structure and language of the legal machine: prosecutors, judges, and lawyers.

The conversation unfolds alongside footage from the project and concludes with a collective reading of the trial transcripts.

The Green Art Gallery is excited to announce the participation of Rossella Biscotti at the 16th Gwangju Biennale, titled 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, led by Ho Tzu Nyen with curators Che Kyongfa, Park Gahee, and Brian Kuan Wood.

Taking its title from the closing line of Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem “Archaic Torso of Apollo” (1908), the 16th edition of the Biennale focuses on intensity rather than accumulation, exploring the transformative power of art upon the human spirit. Bringing together the smallest number of artists in the Biennale’s history, this edition calls upon us to centre depth, development, and discipline in the artistic practices on view.

Rossella Biscotti’s practice engages with individual narratives and experiences in relation to society and institutional systems. Through a cross-media approach that ranges across filmmaking, performance, sculpture, and installation, she explores and reconstructs social and political moments from recent times.

The Gwangju Biennale will be open to visit from 5 September - 15 November 2026 at the Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall, South Korea.

L’uomo che cammina all’indietro (The Man Who Walks Backwards) is a permanent public artwork in Parabita, Puglia, installed on Via Bartolo Ravenna as part of Ipogea #02 and Parabita per il Contemporaneo. L’uomo che cammina all’indietro explores movement, labour and the construction of society through inversion.

The wheel serves as an image of circulation and organisation, while walking backwards establishes a non-linear relationship between past, present and future. The reversed text asks the reader to mirror this movement. Set in Arial (1984), a typeface associated with the standardisation and circulation of information, the work brings together different temporalities of labour, technology and language.

Save the date! Saturday 12 September the Foundation presents a new exhibition with Walter Leblanc, Rosa Barba, Rossella Biscotti, Kasper Bosmans, Gabriel Kuri, and Felipe Mujica.

Zones de lumière, zones d’ombre marks the fortieth anniversary of Walter Leblanc's passing. The exhibition starts from a simple invitation: each guest artist was asked to select a work from the Foundation's collection and to develop a response from that encounter. Each choice reflects a different kind of affinity—formal, conceptual, material, or intuitive—becoming the point of departure for a dialogue with a newly commissioned or existing work.

The exhibition is on view from 10 September 2026 to 12 February 2027, with the opening scheduled for 12 September as part of RendezVous Brussels Art Week.

Rossella Biscotti’s work engages with histories of labour, archives, and collective memory through sculpture, installation, and research-based works. Her practice activates material and narrative fragments, connecting intimate gestures to broader political and economic structures, where transformation, time, and fragility become central forces shaping both history and the present.

The Biennale will be on view in Gwangju, South Korea, from September 5 to December 6, 2026.

Reel #2

We continue our Highlight Series with another excerpt from the film commissioned by TAVROS, revisiting our 2025–2026 programme through the eyes of filmmaker Nefeli Papaiannou.

This Reel returns to For Our Time Is the Time of Water, curated by Maria-Thalia Carras and Mayssa Fattouh.

It moves through the exhibition with details from Rossella Biscotti's Stranded, Davra Research Collective's Taming Waters and Women, Shahana Rajani's Four Acts of Recovery, Jumana Manna's Water Arms, and Ayesha Hameed's Ilemuria. It also brings us back to moments from the exhibition opening and Songs for Waters, a screening featuring films by Lamia Joreige, Jumana Emil Abboud, Anna Moreno, and Noor Abed.
