The Witness, 2025

In ‘The Witness,’ the artist’s youngest son turns inward, his attention fixed on his own inner world as he stands outside behind Roscoe’s signature diamond shaped window grates. The viewer watches from inside a quiet room while his form slowly emerges beyond the pattern, held in a moment where growth meets uncertainty. He is not performing. He is simply present with himself, and the artwork mirrors that private evolution.

As time passes, the rubberized paint on the black metal grates will slowly chip away and reveal its ever changing form, letting the whole artwork change at the same slow pace just as the figure it portrays will do in real life.

Both the surface and the subject keep unfolding, reminding us that neither a child nor a work of art ever stays fixed in one state.

The Redeemer, 2025
Archival Fine Art Print on Hahnemühle Baryta Satin 300 gsm on Expanded PVC with bronze and silver cymbals

In ‘The Redeemer,’ Roscoè B. Thické III reimagines the iconic Christ the Redeemer posture through the image of a Black man with dreadlocks, dispersed across nine diamond shaped frames arranged in a three by three grid. The form draws directly from the metal diamond window grates found throughout public housing, transforming a structure historically tied to surveillance and constraint into a vessel of reverence. What once operated as hostile architecture becomes a sacred visual
system.

Each diamond frame functions as a tambourine fitted with bronze cymbals, grounding the work in the sonic language of Black praise traditions. The tambourine, central to worship and collective devotion, carries the weight of rhythm and testimony. Its presence here is not symbolic alone. The embedded cymbals hold the memory of vibration, suggesting movement even in
silence and extending the spiritual charge of the piece beyond its physical boundaries.

Bronze dominates the work, recalling the description of Christ in the Book of Revelation as having “hair like wool” and “feet like polished bronze.” This link destabilizes the Eurocentric portrayals that have shaped Western iconography for centuries. Silver cymbals appear only around the figure’s head, forming a halo that nods to classical Christian art while asserting a contemporary and culturally specific redefinition of sanctity. Their contrast introduces a luminous break that frames the head in an aura of transformation and ascent. 
Through these elements, ‘The Redeemer’ becomes a meditation on spirituality, embodiment, and cultural memory, articulating a vision of divinity rooted in Black experience.

Acquisition Alert 🚨

We’re thrilled to share that the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale (@nsuartmuseum) has acquired ‘The Redeemer’ by Roscoè B. Thické III.

The work was first presented at homework’s booth during UNTITLED ART fair this past Miami Art Week, and seeing it find a permanent home in the NSU Art Museum collection makes the moment even more special.

Untitled Art Miami Beach comes to a close, and we’re heading home with full hearts.

We’re grateful for an energizing week and even more grateful to Roscoè B Thické III for joining us this year.

His deep storytelling work was matched only by the warm energy he carried throughout the fair. Roscoè’s presence pulled people in just as much as the pieces themselves.

His new works combined his signature photography with materials tied to home and personal history. Visitors kept coming back to works like ‘The Redeemer’ and ‘The Witness’ for good reason.

A million thanks to Clara Andrade Pereira, Jonny Tanna, Cailin Sung, and everyone at Untitled Art Miami Beach for all your support and for making it all happen.

Special thanks to all the other Nest galleries! We had a blast hanging out with you all week.

Archival Fine Art Print on Hahnemühle Baryta Satin 300 gsm with Wood, Speaker Mesh, and Acrylic

Wrapped in archival prints of his mother and late grandmother, the speaker carries their presence the same way Roscoè carries them through his practice. Their faces, gestures, and stories appear again and again in his work because they shaped the way he sees the world.

Family is the core of Roscoè’s work. They shape it, they appear in it, and they stand beside him as he creates.

The piece is tuned in honor of his father, the neighborhood audiophile whose love for sound turned their home into a meeting point for family and friends.

An artwork about lineage, love, and the frequencies that hold us together.

homework is excited to return to Untitled Art Miami Beach with a solo booth of new works by Roscoè B. Thické III.

Born in Miami, Roscoè builds images that feel lived in. His practice blends photography with experimental printing and framing to shape stories about family, community, and closeness. His work carries the color and pulse of South Florida. Light moves. Texture breathes. Instead of stopping time, his images pull you inside it.

Raised in Liberty City and Miami Gardens, Roscoè creates from the places that formed him. Memory, inheritance, and the architecture of home guide his hand. His signature Pork N’ Bean Blue honors the geography of Liberty Square and the tone of his grandmother’s house. The diamond shaped window grates from that home often reappear as portals that link past and future.

Roscoè’s work spans photography, archival materials, sculpture, and installation. His practice has reached museums, film festivals, and residency programs across the world, and his recent curatorial work ’SUNS & SHADOWS’ at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center shows his commitment to legacy and representation.

We are honored to present his latest work together with a range of his earlier classics at Untitled Art Miami Beach.

It’s an honor to feature the women of SUNS & SHADOWS who have been the quiet architects of this project, shaping its heart and its depth.

This booklet accompanies the exhibition SUNS & SHADOWS, curated to honor the fiftieth anniversary of the Marshall L. Davis African Heritage Cultural Arts Center. The exhibition gathered male artists whose works examined the endurance of legacy and the ancestral weight that shapes our present.
This publication extends that dialogue through the perspectives of women working across film, architecture, and writing. Their interpretations transform the curatorial prompt into new languages of care, reflection, and vision.

Together, the exhibition and this book create a conversation about balance, reciprocity, and continuity. They remind us that legacy is not something fixed in time but something we live and pass forward. It is invisible, yet it is always felt
