We talk a lot about not being a gate. So here’s the honest part: there are places we still fall short.

Waiting is hard. We aim to reply to every query within 4 weeks, and we know even that can feel like forever when it’s your book.

Form rejections are hard too. We wish we could write back to each of you personally. But we get about 1,000 queries a month, and there just aren’t enough hours to answer every one by hand. That’s not a reflection of your work. It’s the math of a small team.

And we want to reach more writers than we do right now.

So we’re asking you. What would make publishing feel more open to you? by @roseclifflit

Rosecliff exists because Jessica got tired of watching good writers get shut out.

She founded the agency in 2024 with one rule: open the door. Two years later, that's still the whole point.

What she wants on her desk:
feminist rage
horror
immersive historical fiction
stories steeped in nostalgia
women's fiction

Querying one of those? Our submission guidelines are linked in bio. by @roseclifflit

Writing YA or NA? Shannon Snow is your agent.

She also loves:
💋 contemporary romance
🔪 horror and thriller
🕯️ suspense
🚀 spec fic

Save this for when you're building your query list.

Hailey

If people tell you your writing is "too literary" for genre, Hailey Stephens might be the agent who says "good."

She's the most literary-leaning agent on our team. She's looking for BIPOC mystery and thriller, horror, and anything speculative, written with care at the sentence level.

Drop your genre in the comments and tell us what you're working on. 👇 by @roseclifflit

A haunted house in the Caribbean. A folk tale that won't stay buried. Two women who fall in love in the middle of it all.

If that made your heart jump, you need to know Rita Veras. 🌹

Rita is our COO and an agent with very clear taste: Caribbean everything, gothic stories, LGBTQ+ stories, folklore, romance, thriller, and women's fiction. Bonus points if your book mixes three of them.

Come pitch to Rita Veras at Crime Bake! From the @roseclifflit agency website, Rita Veras is an Associate Agent at Rosecliff Literary. She started writing short stories and poetry at a young age, inspired by her upbringing in the Dominican Republic. Rita is passionately dedicated to uplifting BIPOC voices, enhancing representation, and championing diverse narratives.

For nearly twenty years, Rita has empowered countless entrepreneurs to become successful business owners. Now, with her results-driven approach, she has returned to the literary world to inspire aspiring authors on their journey to publication.

She’s seeking immersive, atmospheric stories across genres, especially historical fiction—gothic or moody tales, BIPOC romances rooted in heritage, and magical realism with political nuance. She welcomes feminist retellings that reclaim overlooked voices and narratives on identity and ancestry.

Rita also enjoys folklore-inspired horror, blending beauty and terror. Above all, she is drawn to books that linger in your soul and stay with you long after the last page is turned. by @roseclifflit

Will you accept this query? 🌹
What finding a literary agent has in common with The Bachelor.

Querying really can feel like a reality show. Lots of hopefuls, a few dramatic exits, and everyone waiting on that one big moment. But here's the thing we want you to remember: you're not trying to get picked by just anyone. You're looking for the agent who loves your book as much as you do and is ready to fight for it.

So do your research, dress for the occasion (read those guidelines!), and hold out for the right match. This is your career, and you deserve a partner who's in it for the long haul. by @roseclifflit

If starting your draft feels scary today, this one's for you.
A short guided meditation for writers dealing with draft dread.

Here's something we wish every writer heard more often: being afraid of your draft doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. It means you care. You want to get this story right, and that's a beautiful thing to carry.

So take a breath with us. Let the fear sit beside you, and then go back to the page anyway.

Save this for the next hard writing day, and send it to a writer friend who could use it. by @roseclifflit

In case nobody's told you lately: you're a real writer.
Three things that don't make you any less of one.

You don't have to write every day. Some of the best writers we know draft in bursts, before sunrise, or in the carpool line. Thinking about the market isn't selling out. And whether or not you're published yet, you're still a writer.

Your pace, your path. Focus on the craft and tell a good story. We'll be here cheering you on. by @roseclifflit

If you've ever read about a stolen painting and wondered who actually tracks that stuff, it's Noah. He's spent his career studying art crime. He founded a whole research group around it. He's taught at Yale and Brown, written 30+ books, and been nominated for a Pulitzer.

And now he's part of the Rosecliff team. 🖼️

Represented by @jessica__berg, Noah is ready to bring his art crime stories to new readers.

We're thrilled to have him here! by @roseclifflit

Confession: we're book nerds before we're agents.
Five things Rosecliff Literary agents love, from comps to cliffhangers.

Yes, we have opinions on tote bag puns. Yes, we've gasped out loud at a chapter ending. And yes, we'll dig through comps like we're cracking a cold case. This job is serious, but loving books this much never gets old.

Now your turn. What do you love to do when you read and write? Tell us in the comments. by @roseclifflit
