On behalf of the Easton Kiwanis Club, I would like to invite you to attend the Firefighter of the Year Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, October 14, at 12:00 pm at the Pomfret Club.

The cost of the luncheon is $25 per person, with checks payable to the “Easton Kiwanis Club” on the day of the event.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Walt Howell at: whowell75@hotmail.com

This year, selected recipient Kevin Sciba graciously declined the honor and requested that the award be presented posthumously to Tyler Weidner. As many of you may know, Tyler tragically passed away in September 2025. We look forward to recognizing his service, dedication, and lasting impact on our community.

We hope you will join us for this special tribute. by @roseforeaston

The Easton Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, October 7 at 6:00 pm in City Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall (123 South 3rd Street). The public is welcome to attend.

What’s on the agenda:

309 West Wayne Avenue (College Hill): The property owner wants to build a 24-by-24-foot detached garage (576 square feet) behind the home, partly on an existing parking pad. Because the garage counts as a “large accessory structure” under the zoning code, it needs a special exception. The Planning Commission will review the request and make a recommendation to the Zoning Hearing Board, which makes the final decision. City staff are recommending approval with conditions. taken in Easton, Pennsylvania by @roseforeaston

Happy 90th Birthday, Joanne Cappellano! 🎉

Yesterday, I joined the Kiwanis Club of Easton, PA in celebrating a true community trailblazer! Joanne has given 39 years of service, leadership, and dedication to the Kiwanis Club, including making history as its first female president, at a time when the club’s nearly 100 members were primarily Easton business leaders. Her strong leadership earned her the respect and confidence to serve three terms as president.

Joanne also broke barriers in her career, becoming the first female Vice President of Easton National Bank.

She continues her service today as Treasurer of the Easton Kiwanis Club’s Foundation.

Thank you, Joanne, for decades of leadership and community impact. Happy Birthday, and here’s to many more happy, healthy years ahead! 🎂 taken in Easton, Pennsylvania by @roseforeaston

This week, City Council will be meeting on Tuesday at 6:00 pm for our city council committee meeting (no voting happens at this meeting – only information sharing and discussions).

Easton City Council also meets this Wednesday at 6:00 pm for our city council meeting (we do vote on agenda items at this morning). Both meeting agendas are attached.

At Wednesday’s meeting, congrats are in order. We’ll be swearing in Scott Ednie as Sergeant, plus welcoming Brandon Homoki and Biagio Colandrea as our newest police officers.

On the agenda:
	•	8 Certificates of Appropriateness for historic district properties (windows, signage, masonry work, and more downtown)

	•	Renewing our crossing guard services contract, covering 21 sites

	•	Two grant applications (Main Street Matters and Municipal Assistance Program) and a $6M short-term financing note

	•	A new trail connection near the Karl Stirner Arts Trail with a safer crosswalk, including flashing beacons. The project is intended to improve pedestrian and trail access in the area of the Easton Iron & Metal property and Bushkill Drive, creating safer connections between existing trails, sidewalks, and the planned pedestrian bridge.

According to the resolution, the trail will connect the Easton Iron & Metal property eastward along the south side of Bushkill Drive to the existing Lafayette College sidewalk network on the north side of the road.

	•	A new Parking Ticket Appeals Board (Bill 27), creating a formal process for disputing citations

	•	A developer agreement for the proposed Northampton County parking garage on Washington St.

Lots on the table. Come out and make your voice heard, or tune in via the City of Easton’s YouTube channel (meetings are stream live and archived). taken in Easton, Pennsylvania by @roseforeaston

Congratulations to Paige Griggs the Kiwanis Club of Easton’s Emergency Squad Person of the Year!

Paige’s journey with the Easton Emergency Squad began through Lafayette College’s Emergency Medical Services Club. She became an EMT with the squad in 2024 and is now a Nationally Registered EMT, responding to 911 calls and providing critical life support to our neighbors when they need it most.

What makes this even more impressive? Paige balances this vital volunteer work with a full-time career as a chemical engineer.

Thank you, Paige, for your dedication and service to our community - this recognition is well deserved! taken in Easton, Pennsylvania by @roseforeaston

Update to Wednesday’s Easton Planning Commission Agenda

The proposed zoning amendments have been removed from this month’s agenda. They will be presented at the September Planning Commission meeting instead.

Join us Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 6:00 PM in City Council Chambers (3rd Floor, 123 South 3rd Street) for the Easton Planning Commission’s monthly meeting. Residents are welcome to attend and speak.

What’s on the agenda:

329 Folk Street – The owner wants to turn an empty commercial space into three new apartments, adding to one existing home on the same lot (4 units total). The Commission will review whether this special use fits neighborhood rules.

260 West Milton Street – A homeowner is asking for permission to build a 6-foot-tall fence in their side yard. City rules normally cap side yard fences at 4 feet, so this needs special approval.

Want to speak? Residents can comment on any topic during “Privilege of the Floor,” or speak on a specific agenda item when it comes up.

The updated meeting packet is available to the public on the Planning Commission webpage: easton-pa.com/640/4664/Planning-Commission-Meeting-Packets

Hope to see you there. taken in Easton, Pennsylvania by @roseforeaston
