Another Glass Art Society conference in the books! And possibly the best one yet!! I’m feeling exhausted but grateful after such a fun and glass packed week! My artwork was in 4 shows, featured in one film festival video and I assisted with 2 demonstrations! Busy 🐝! I got to connect with so many friends, old and new, my heart is set to burst! Feeling so grateful to the community and teams at the @glassartsociety and @corningmuseum @corningmuseumstudio whose hard work made it happen!! Triple chamber plasma piece ⚡️⚡️⚡️ this piece was inspired by @alysaxliu ‘s Olympic performance. Watching her perform, I was really struck by the joy and serenity on her face. While doing some research, I learned that Alysa’s father was a political refugee from China, who came to the US seeking asylum. One generation later Alysa skated to gold representing the United States. Her story is the quintessential tale of the American dream, a dream that is under attack today. It is not lost on me that while the daughter of a refugee was skating to gold representing the USA many people are being brutally detained by 🧊. How many future olympians, doctors teachers etc. have had their lives derailed by an inhumane immigration system? Why do we prop up and idolize the American dream for some, and bar access for others? As a descendent of immigrants these questions weighed on my mind while conceptualizing this piece. I wanted to create something that highlights Alysa’s defiant joy and the energy I felt watching her compete. ⛸️🥇 Special shout out and thank you to @kaylajamesglass who lended a hand as my human Bunsen burner during the final (and highest stakes) steps of this project ❤️‍🔥 by @roseglassart

🏇🏇🏇 Jazzed about this project 🏇🏇🏇 One of my pieces filled during my demo at the International Flameworking Conference #IFC at @scc.glass.center back in March! This project was inspired by a drawing my friend made for me way back in middle school ❤️‍🔥 and it allowed me to experiment with a new technique I had been marinating on for awhile. This double chamber plasma piece utilized a technique I picked up while watching a @saltglass demo. Using his tech allowed me to sculpt the figure right off the back of the horse allowing the two forms to sit flush. Thank you @saltglass for sharing your tech with the world, this is what it inspired me to make⚡️🙌🏻 To my aspiring glass artists: If you are interested in learning hollow sculpting or plasma art I am teaching two workshops this summer: Plasma playground at @scc.glass.center is for those with little hollow experience, who are interested in making sculptural plasma. And Lightning in a Bottle at @pghglasscenter is an intermediate class for those with more hollow experience looking to up their hollow game for plasma art. Workshop details and registration can be found at www.salemcc.edu/glass-intensives. All workshops include materials for participation as well as additional studio time outside of class.
