Pictured here is Bernadette, our 🍓Nutrition Manager🥐 Bernadette is responsible for serving over 72,000 meals last year🤩(and likely more this year!) She works with our volunteers to help prep, cook, and clean for our guests every day.
Bernadette is also a talented singer and painter, and she's pretty funny too!😂 by @rosehavenpdx

🌹Introducing the 2026-27 Rose Haven - Youth Outreach Board @rosehavenyob

✨Our board is comprised of high school activists in the Portland metropolitan area moved to positive action. By being intentional catalysts for change, the YOB spreads awareness and inspires action by unifying our community for the benefit of the women and children of Rose Haven challenged by homelessness and abuse.

🌹Their primary goals are awareness, in-kind donations, and financial giving to help improve the lives of those we serve. This work is done on four committees: Advocacy, Events, Drives and Social Media/Marketing

We can't wait to share the amazing work that will be done in the year ahead.

Starting Fall Camp by Doing Good. 👐

The team volunteered at @rosehavenpdx last Friday, cleaning water bottles, sorting tote bags, packing pet supplies and rolling toilet paper for guests seeking help from the center.

🌟Community Spotlight🌟

@uportland 3rd year nursing students Johanna, Jasmatae and Selam

We enjoy collaborating with the University of Portland's nursing program for 12 weeks each semester. These students expressed feeling gratitude for being placed at Rose Haven.

They brought their academic knowledge into a space where our guests are seen, heard, and valued — and in turn, they gained a deeper understanding of the importance of centering the human experience in healthcare.

They also experienced how services that may seem simple, like access to a shower, can have a meaningful impact on a person’s overall health and well-being. By connecting with our guests and learning from their experiences, these students were able to see the whole person beyond a diagnosis or set of health needs.

Thank you to these students for being such an important part of our community and for sharing your knowledge, compassion, and care with our guests. We’re so grateful to learn and grow alongside you! ❤️ by @rosehavenpdx

WE ARE HIRING a Program Associate - Guest Services

✨The Program Associate-Guest Services plays a vital role at Rose Haven, responsible for promoting calm and safety around our day shelter prior to opening, during operating hours, and at closing time, as well as connecting guests to resources internal and external to Rose Haven.

🌹People with identities or lived experience that reflects the diversity of the people served by Rose Haven (related to mental health, recovery, domestic violence/sexual assault, LGBTQ2IA+, housing insecurity, etc.) are encouraged to apply.

🌹This position is represented by ILWU Local 5, and we are currently bargaining a first contract.

✨Application review will begin immediately and end when the position is filled.

Hello friends of Rose Haven! We are pleased to announce our involvement with The Standard's 19th Annual Volunteer Expo. This event is put on to connect Oregonians with potential volunteer opportunities. With over 100 nonprofit organizations present at the fair, this event acts as a meaningful way to get individuals engaged with local organizations and give back to the community. From non-profit work in housing to education, there are numerous ways to get involved in efforts across the state of Oregon. 👏⭐️💕

Representatives from Rose Haven will be tabling, come find us and connect to discuss our mission and current volunteer openings. We hope to see you there!✨🌹

🌟Community Spotlight🌟

Pictured is the lovely Chiara, one of our program associates. Chiara has been with Rose Haven for almost 4 years, initially coming to Rose Haven with a background in hotline crisis work. She Transitioned into a team oriented role, as she wanted to continue serving Portland's unhoused population through a collective. At present, Chiara is balancing her position in direct service, while obtaining her masters degree in social work at PSU.

In her role, Chiara focuses on building relationships with guests and works to de-escalate situations as they arise in our space. She spends a lot of time in line facilitating conversations and mediating conflict. Chiara says her work is, "truly all about relationships," with her favorite part of the job being, "the inside jokes with guests, all the nicknames they give me."

Chiara speaks to the importance of Rose Haven, as a support network that sustainably combats harm, while connecting people from a range of different backgrounds.

This past August 25th, Rose Haven hosted an Under the Sea party 🎉 🪼🦀. Thank you so much to our community care team and Monica for organizing this event. We had a wonderful afternoon of summer celebration, with a photo-booth, coloring, nail art, bag decorating, food, and hola hooping. We love being able to build joy and connection in our shared space 🌟💕. Celebrating our guests is one way we show our appreciation for our community.

The challenges of the summer months, with increased heat and smoke, pose great risk to the health and safety of our guests. We understand that summer looks different for our unhoused population. We aim to provide a day shelter during these difficult moments to meet the physical necessities of our guests, as well as, a community space that recognizes their socio-emotional needs.

We are so proud of the network we have created together, and pledge to continue our work of uplifting and celebrating our Rose Haven guests through every season ☀️🍂❄️🌸.

While my team was packing up backpacks with supplies, preparing for a back-to-school distribution to local schools in District 3, we saw a call for backpacks from the Rose Haven (@rosehavenpdx) day shelter and community center, which serves women, children and gender non-conforming folks.

We were so happy to be able to drop off 30 backpacks for kids experiencing the trauma of abuse, loss of home and other disruptive life challenges.

What an amazing organization! Rose Haven breaks the cycle of homelessness by providing meals, clothing, first aid, mailing addresses, hygiene, restrooms, showers as well as educational programs and guidance through medical and social services. They meet basic needs and build trust to help empower their guests to explore long-term change.
