Social media is shifting and here’s how (+ what it means for you): 🧵

Audiences are pulling back from mindless scrolling and moving toward content that’s actually worth their time. More intentional, more meaningful, more authentic, more specialized, more nourishing.

This is prevalent beyond a simple trend, but the recent ‘media I consumed instead of doom scrolling’ post theme highlights just how hours on Instagram or TikTok takes a real toll on mental health, and people are finding better alternatives.

What this looks like:
📖 Substack is having a serious moment: personal essays, op-eds, and weekly newsletters are gaining real traction. (My personal current fave: over & out by @arianaferwerda - she shares about her journey building and scaling @halfdays alongside personal musings and style tidbits)

📖 Podcasts aren’t slowing down. Whether you’re keeping up with the news, therapy-adjacent convos, or straight-up comedy, there’s a show for you. (My personal current fave is @goodhangwithamy)

📖 YouTube is back. Full circle from the @bethanynoelm era!! People are turning to longer videos for the kind of storytelling that short-form just can’t deliver. (My personal current fave is @clarapeirce - don’t watch if you don’t want your Sunday reset routine & DIY mindset to be forever changed)

📖 Blogs and newsletters are on their second run. They’re a way to keep up with the people you love without ever opening Instagram. (My personal current fave: the @cityparkfarmersmarket newsletter - so much important info, community vibes and a fun story to read every Friday!!)

What ties all of this together? People are craving depth, and choosing to be more intentional with their time. Tools like @getbrick, social media limits and a cultural push to spend more time outside, medium-form writing (as I like to call it) is taking the stage. Sharing your perspective through even a short piece of writing is one of the most underrated ways to connect right now.
