POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I know Instagram hates anything over 20 seconds but I could hardly condense a year’s worth of work any further.

With the completion of my graduate work I would like to thank everyone who supported me as well as @juz_kitson, I wouldn’t have been able to pull this off without you, and @marinabychkova who has been my biggest, lifelong inspiration.

A big thank you to @timtamdang for the photos too!

Artist Statement: The ‘Self’

I have always been fascinated by concepts of the ‘self’ and how our understanding of identity is formed. Through this exploration, I have come to perceive the body and the being as two distinctly separate yet interdependent entities. Mentally, I often liken this relationship to the tide and the coast, as the ocean flows in constant flux, the shore is slowly shaped to reflect its partner’s movements. Mirrored in the world around us, I understand myself as the entanglement between the biological and the metaphysical, with my self-perception as a product of their relationship.

What is presented before you is the embodiment of this concept. ‘The Self’ serves as an allegorical representation of what remains at the conclusion of this relationship, an empty vessel, shaped and changed by the life and spirit it once possessed.

It was essential that I physically sculpt every part of her, grounding the abstract idea of building one’s self in the reality of hands-on labor and construction, materializing my concept of self-perception into the inanimate.
