Welcome to ROSETTA KIDS! Yippee! 🥳📚

We are so excited to welcome you to our kids library box - an extension of Rosetta Reads in response to the incredible success of the kids book crate. We are thrilled to have a permanent home for the kids books, available and accessible always (not just when we are home or when the sun is shining!)

A huge thank you to my dad for donating the box, and to Leichhardt Men’s Shed for building it. This box is a second-hand street library that we have refurbished. It has its quirks - such as a temperamental door that doesn’t like to close - but it’s a great start and we are excited to see it being used and loved by the kids of Rosetta and beyond!

There is plenty of new and preloved books inside, as well as a ‘Best Dad’ craft pack for the littles to do for Dad this week ready to gift on Father’s Day on Sunday.

Feel free to leave any drawings or notes in the kids guest book, and as always, HAPPY READING! 📚🥳

I love being a street librarian, especially for the best community!

Have you ever considered starting a street library of your own? If you’re contemplating, consider this your nudge to go ahead and do it! A vibrant, successful & generous street library takes time and effort, but it is SO worth it. The joy and connection street libraries bring to a community is special, and more quality books in more hands and homes is always a good thing! 📚✨ @streetlibraryau

Our gorgeous Panda sadly lost his leg today! But don’t worry, our Lion friend has stepped up to guard Rosetta Kids and to let the awesome kids of our community into our box full of adventures and stories 📚🦁 #streetlibrary#community by @rosettareadslittlelibrary

😭🥹 Look what was dropped off at the street library this afternoon! Huge love and thanks to two very special local kids (& their lovely mum!) who spent their day crafting these beautiful bracelets for the kids in our community.

I’m Smart. Be Brave. Sing. Be Kind. I’m Loved. I Matter. Every single message is a reminder our kids deserve to hear daily, and captures the true heart of what this library is all about.🤍 I’ll pop them in our trinket tray & place them in Rosetta Kids shortly!

Did you know Rosetta Reads was acknowledged in Parliament last year? We are so grateful for the incredible continued support and community presence from Warren Kirby MP, from reaching out to donate books to celebrating our 1st birthday here at the library. This mention in Parliament was a wonderful surprise and we were truly humbled and honoured.

Rosetta Reads was born out of a deeply challenging season following my second major surgery to regain mobility. During our family walks (and wheels!) around Altrove, my heart began to stir for our community. Building this street library became an anchor during a tough time. Devoting my energy to serving others and being part of the change I wanted to see in our community turned out to be the best medicine and a powerful reminder that we can do hard things, and beauty can be birthed from pain.

As was so beautifully shared in Parliament, it is ‘a space where stories are shared, hope is exchanged and community ties are strengthened.’ That truly sums up our heart for these boxes on the fence.

We’re all carrying something, but we don’t have to carry it alone. Community matters, and so do you. Here’s to all of the stories yet to unfold and be told! 🤍 #streetlibrary#community#youmatter by @rosettareadslittlelibrary

Community is vital, and is the main reason Rosetta Reads & Rosetta Kids exists. After living in our community for 5 or so years we realised we still had not yet met many of our neighbours, and there really wasn’t anything for us to do nearby. No where to walk to, not much to do, just lots of houses with people inside yet no avenue to connect. I also started reading statistics about the literacy crisis, and knew quickly that I had to play my part in being part of the solution, no matter how big or small.

Part of community is sharing what we have. We all have something to give. Whether it’s something as simple as a smile, something as profound as a hand of forgiveness, something as practical as a meal, or perhaps, a book…to challenge a neighbour to start reading, or to offer something new they might not usually read.

A good place to start is with what’s in your hand. What have you got in your hand right now that you could share with your community today? 📚🤍✨ #community#streetlibrary by @rosettareadslittlelibrary
