There is only one person in fashion history who has ever managed to balance talent, innovation, quality, authenticity, activism and satire within one brand. It’s an understatement to say that it was a blessing and an honor to have played even the tiniest fraction of a role in supporting this genius’s work. From 2011, Vivienne Westwood was a foundational part of my career. I’ve spent a significant amount of time since then studying her story - her motivations and the fascinating, intentional and always unexpected choices of expression. From her muses to her messages, she was purposeful in everything she did, even if the purpose was to tell us to stop taking ourselves so seriously all the time. People called her kooky, crazy, confusing, etc. Whatever you’d like to label a vibrant “neurodivergent” brain, it doesn’t really matter. There is no denying that she was one of the most iconic revolutionaries fashion has ever seen. She never cared to follow industry trends (like not loaning samples to black celebrities 🌚) and that got me. I aspire to her level of unapologetic and elevated consciousness. To this day I’m still never more than 10 ft away from a Westwood piece, and I never go on a trip without at least one on me. May her legacy live on! Memories of the last year… Hanging out with a sweet (very devoutly Christian) Uber driver who thought it was appropriate to take me for a drink at a strip club on Christmas Eve (2021). He “didn’t know” it was a strip club. Only that it was a popular night spot…God really protects me everywhere I go 🤦🏾‍♀️ 🙏🏾 although this is probably where my forehead and I caught Covid 🫠🫠🫠 but we made it out alive at the dawn of Omicron!! 🙌🏾 taken in Accra, Ghana by @rosgold

My baby cousin @maxwell.taro_ turned 18 years old today and I just…🥹 The photo is grainy, but beside the point lol. Snapshot from a video, coming soon…Tonight I watched Maxwell burn it down on stage at his (last) winter jazz concert at Harvard Westlake. He gave us a perfect solo jazz performance. This solo was a last-minute decision assigned today. Today. Having played the exact same instrument (tenor sax) for 7 years, I gotta say – that was beyond impressive. A classical solo is one thing to read and perfect in less than 24 hours, but an uptempo Jazz solo? In 5 hours?! Nah. Man is a whole 🧠 genius. Carla and Jesse Cretaro are two brilliant minds who had 2 incredible kids that are truly brilliant in their own unique ways, and I’m lucky to have witnessed one example live tonight. by @rosgold
