"We don't have a clothing problem. We have a waste problem."

One conversation in New York really made me stop and think.

At the Inclusion event, I sat down with Ross Barry, founder of Re-Skinned, to talk about something that affects all of us, whether we realise it or not.

Clothing waste.

Every year, millions of perfectly usable garments end up in landfill.

Not because they're worn out.

But because we've become used to buying more, wearing less, and throwing things away far too quickly.

Ross's mission is to challenge that mindset.

To prove that clothing can have a second life, creating value instead of waste.

Sometimes, the biggest changes don't come from producing more.

They come from making better use of what we already have.

If every piece of clothing had a story, would you still throw it away so easily?

Ross Barry’s message to future generations is simple but powerful. Fashion is becoming more personal, more intentional and more individual. People are repairing, upcycling and turning to vintage because they do not want to look like everyone else. And that shift in mindset is everything.

Instead of chasing quantity, find the piece that truly says something about who you are. A statement piece that lasts, that means something, that you come back to again and again. That is the future of fashion we want to see. 🤍

Etihad airlines have a great system where you can bid for an upgrade and we got it!! Sadly the credit card we had used when registering had been stolen, a few weeks ago so I had cancelled it. As such payment was declined. We received an email and had to enter new card details. We then didn’t hear anything ! We thought there maybe a counter to ask at Heathrow, but it seems Etihad don’t think a representative at the airport is worthwhile. At check in the staff were super friendly and a little embarrassed that they had no way of verifying what had happened. But they did say we could pay to upgrade on our second leg after Abu Dhabi. We had already set our sites on turning left, so thought why not! However whilst processing the booking the seats had disappeared. Our second big disappointment!
The most surprising thing was, Etihad put the payment through. Barclays Bank questioned this payment and a few others as suspicious. I verified them thinking Etihad wouldn’t reissue and take the payment given they didn’t sell us any seats. It was also a Saturday so presumably it wouldn’t be reissued until Monday. Guess what ?? Etihad decided to take payment for seats they hadn’t sold. Quite amazing that there booking system can’t reserve seats whilst processing payment. But their payment system is super efficient. We then started the lengthy process of trying to talk to someone at customer service, to be told we needed to fill in an online form. We did this to be informed it could take 28 days to come back to be resolved!! So we’re hoping the marketing team may see this and be more useful than customer services !! I can see why emirates is the leading UAE airline - Etihad have a long way to go !!
