POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Some images from my ongoing CEIBA project exploring Mexican culture, systems for living and rituals of death.

I've not really posted on here in a while , so I just thought I would share freely some images that I have been enjoying of late …

- street furniture and birds , CDMX
- Las Americas , hotel front in Creel
- a boy cleans up after a day's work at the mercado
- Las Pozas at night , Xilitla
- stubborn bull / self portrait , Oaxaca
- (some of the 400 plus films I shot for the project)
- "Princesa" street kid borrowed my friend's cap and shot her own selfie with my iPhone 5
- red and white stripes , tostadas muy rico
- fishermen's nets used to hang Cempasúchil
(Aztec Marigolds) on the Isle of Janitzio , Michoacán
- some framed artworks from the project

"Cempasúchil" is the Nahuatl name for the Mexican marigold (Tagetes erecta), a bright orange and yellow flower. It translates to "flower of twenty petals" or "many petals" and is famously known as the flor de muerto (flower of the dead)

Ya'ax ché' (or Yaxche) translates to "green tree" or "first tree" in the Maya language.
In Maya mythology, it represents the sacred Ceiba tree (the Tree of Life), which stands at the center of the cosmos and connects the underworld, the earth, and the heavens.

According to the Popol Vuh, the gods planted four Ceiba trees at the corners of the earth (red in the east, black in the west, yellow in the south, and white in the north) to hold up the sky.

A fifth central Ya'ax ché was planted right in the middle.

Its deep roots reach down into Xibalba (the underworld) and its high branches reach into the celestial heavens, serving as a conduit between spiritual and physical realms.

Which is what this project shares its namesake with.
