What's that little wheel swinging inside your watch?

Meet the balance wheel, the heart of every mechanical watch. It swings back and forth like a pendulum, while the hairspring keeps every swing the same length. The mainspring pushes energy through the gears, and the pallet fork lets it out one tooth at a time. Each release is the tick you hear.

Those rubies? They're jewel bearings that cut down friction between the metal parts.

smoother sweep or more power reserve? ⚖️
4Hz vs 3Hz. One gives you a smooth, gliding seconds hand. The other runs for days. I know which one I'd pick. 👀
Which side are you on? Tell me in the comments. 👇

"Do you only own one colour?"
People ask me this all the time, because I wear black every day.
And my answer is always yes. I only own one colour, and it's black.
And it's not only my clothes. My shirts are black, my shoes are black, my watches are black, even my perfumes are black. Everything I own is black. 🖤
On my wrist today is the Seiko 5 Sports GMT in all black, an automatic GMT watch that goes with every all-black outfit I own.
I love black. What's your favourite colour? Do tell me in the comments. 👇

Casio Edifice ED576
I wanted a watch that could keep up with court work, but nothing felt right. The tough ones looked too casual under a black coat, and the dressy ones wouldn't last a week of real practice.

What I needed was harder to find. When you're filing in the courtrooms, you have to know the date and the time, without reaching for your phone. I wanted a watch that could do all of that and still look right with the black coat and white bands.

It also had to survive the actual job: running from one courtroom to the next, squeezing through packed corridors, and riding crowded trains across the city.

This is the watch I was wearing the day I first appeared as an advocate. Every scratch on it has come from the work since then.

It's the only watch I trust with all of that. The watch I wear to court, every day, as an advocate. ⚖️⌚

What's the most beautiful part of a watch?

In my opinion, it's the dial.
A dial can be very interesting or very simple. It can be plain black and still be beautiful, or it can be a shimmering aventurine that looks like a night sky on your wrist. There are so many styles, textures and colours, and everyone has a different taste, which is what makes it so much fun.

This is just my opinion, and I'd love to hear yours. Comment your opinion below, and tell me what your favourite dial is.

AETHELSOHN AQUA SHARD

Some dials you look at once and move on. This one makes you stop. The Aqua Shard's sunburst finish isn't just blue ,it's engineered to catch light and throw it back differently every time the angle shifts. Flat indoor light, it reads as a deep, cool teal, not far off that iconic Tiffany blue everyone recognises. Step into direct sun, and the whole dial seems to ignite — rays of light shooting outward from the center like the dial itself is coming alive. It's the kind of detail you don't notice in a product photo. You only notice it on your wrist, in real light, when it happens to you.

Automatic, 100m water resistant, and a blue that genuinely earns a second look. This is a dial built to be watched, not just worn.

This watch is a part of my personal collection.

CASIO MTP-1291 . THE ENTICER THAT AGED WELL.

This is the Casio MTP-1291, from the Enticer series, first released back around 2012. Casio borrowed a design language usually reserved for their pricier Edifice line and brought it down to this price point , a woven carbon-style texture across the dial, a printed rotating-bezel track finished in gold and orange, and a seconds hand that got its own accent color instead of just blending in. None of that was necessary on a budget watch. They did it anyway. Fifty meters water resistant, mineral glass, a screw-lock case back, and a stainless bracelet that's held up for over a decade of actual wear , this two-tone colorway has quietly aged out of current lineups, the way most budget watches eventually do, with no relaunch and no fanfare. Don't mind the dust; it's earned. It still keeps time exactly the way it did on day one, and that's really the only thing that ever mattered.

WHY MECHANICAL WATCHES?

Because it has a heart. Not a metaphor — an actual beating heart, called a balance wheel, swinging back and forth 3 to 4 times every second, never resting, never asking for permission. It doesn't know it's keeping time. It just beats, and somehow, that's exactly what keeps you on time.

In a world that's gone almost entirely digital, a mechanical watch might be the last thing on your wrist that isn't trying to be smart. It doesn't sync, it doesn't die when the software stops supporting it — it just keeps beating, long after most "smart" watches have been replaced. That's the whole appeal. Not smarter. Just alive.

Coromondal Neelam

A beautiful dress watch with a stunning sunburst purple dial. The Roman numerals and grey leather strap give it a classic look, while the sapphire crystal and 100m water resistance make it practical too. I especially love how the dial changes under different lighting.
