About the event 🎺

ICONS 100: Miles & Coltrane – The Classics & The Samples celebrates 100 years since the births of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, alongside the music and influence of Oscar Brown, Ray Brown and Lou Donaldson.

Tai Allen and Reg Wyns connect those jazz legacies with generations of artists they inspired, from A Tribe Called Quest and Erykah Badu to Kanye West and Robert Glasper. Wyns also has a direct connection through Us3’s Cantaloop, built around a sample of Lou Donaldson.

Joining them at Grounds are Emanuel Ruffler and John Lander for an evening connecting jazz classics, samples and the music they helped inspire.

We spoke with Italian composer @brunobavota ahead of his first performance in Rotterdam. 🎹

His new album Night Music was largely written and recorded at night in his mountain studio in Caposele, Italy. In our interview, Bruno talks about the story behind the album title, why he kept the creaks and imperfections of the piano and room in the recordings, how he combines piano with electronics, and what audiences can expect from his live show.

Nieuwe Luxor’s old seats are going out with a bang. 🐴✨ After 25 years and millions of visitors, the theatre is replacing 1,535 worn chairs, and instead of quietly clearing the hall, it has come up with peak #Rotterdam chaos: PAARDENRAVE. Think theatre meets club night meets circus fever, all inside an auditorium that is about to be transformed. 🎶

Expect DJs, dancers, circus energy, bold costumes and a dancefloor where the audience normally sits.

Nieuwe Luxor’s famous red #seats have officially entered their dramatic era 🎭😄 After 25 years and more than 3 million visitors, musicals, drama, big nights out and probably a few accidental naps...… the theatre is asking for help to replace all 1,535 seats, because saggy #cushions and loose #armrests are not exactly giving standing-ovation energy.

A donation portal has been opened and they've currently raised €15k of their €50k target, and there's less than a month to go!

The upgrade will also improve accessibility and make the space more flexible for future shows. #Rotterdam deserves seats that clap back in comfort ✨
