14 years ago I married the love of my life. Jesse and I knew almost immediately after meeting that we would be together forever. We met 5/25/2011 and married 10/28/2012. We have lived a huge, beautiful life filled with adventure, respect, hard work and a lot of love. I love you @jessecory and am so excited for our next chapter. ❤️❤️❤️ by @rouladavid
September has been weird and awesome all at the same time. So grateful to have these beautiful people in my life! by @rouladavid
Me and this amazing man have been through more stuff than any normal person can endure this year. We did it with love, support, kindness and understanding. The love of music, art, people and our community is what gave us what we needed. Also the biggest is the love we have for each other and the belief that nothing is greater than the love of each other. @jessecory you are my human. I love you more than anything. Thank you to @morinyousif for sending this candid pic from the early days of @spotlitedetroit by @rouladavid
I just woke up to the news that @johnjammincollins.official transitioned. I am in complete and utter shock. John was one of the first people I met in Detroit. He was a mentor, friend and colleague. He would always check in with me and we had a beautiful friendship. The life and legacy that he leaves behind is immeasurable. Sending my love to Javier and the Collins family. Also to all that knew and loved John. I love you very much John ❤️❤️❤️ by @rouladavid
Well, what can we say… The outpouring of love, gratitude, and respect shared with us over the past two weeks has been overwhelming. It has been difficult to fully communicate everything people have shared with us. The friendships formed, relationships built, careers launched, and even families started through our dance floors and spaces are extraordinary. What I know is that underground dance music, whether hip-hop, house, techno, drum and bass, broken beat, jazz, funk, or soul, is where I found myself and my community. Going deeper and discovering this dance community is what inspired me to create these spaces. It inspired the way I guided our staff to care for, execute, and protect the space. It is at the heart of what I believe in. The incredible artists, people, and community leaders I met along the way have only made me a better person. Why do we do it? Because when you find that spark that special moment on a dance floor you want to live there forever. It becomes a sanctuary, a safe space, and a place where you can be yourself in the truest way. Jesse and I used to dream about what the perfect space would look and feel like to us, and we were able to create the best version of what we believed it could be. It took hard work, resilience, tenacity, and a constant belief that we could become better every year we were in it. There is so much more to say, and I want to slowly unpack these past five years. That will take some time. In the meantime, I simply want to say THANK YOU. Thank you for supporting us, believing in us, and spending your time with us. We will carry that with us for the rest of our lives. This was a chapter in Detroit music history that I know will continue to grow and become even more fruitful for everyone involved. We love you, and we believe in you. <3 Many people believe this is the end of my Detroit story. It is not. I have been curating art, music, and spaces here for 15 years, and that work is far from done. I am ready to turn it all the way up, and we have so many huge projects in the works. Stay tuned… by @rouladavid
After a lot of thought and consideration, we have decided to close this chapter in our lives and move away from nightlife. At the end of the month, Spot Lite and UFO Bar will close their doors. Spot Lite has been the most meaningful project of my life for the past 5 years. As an Arab-American woman, I have always seen joy as a form of resistance. From the pandemic to troubling times locally and globally, we have all been able to reconnect on this dance floor to find joy and community. We are incredibly grateful to all of our patrons, artists, dancers, and most of all, our team that made the party happen each night. Their dedication to customer service, safety, and sound created the energy that Spot Lite became so famous for. Honestly, there are too many people to thank and we hope to see each one of you so that we can thank you individually. Thank you for believing in Spot Lite and helping make her what she became. **Sunday June 28 & Tuesday June 30 ** by @rouladavid
