I did a quick and goofy edit, piecing together a few moments from one of my first tests of DrumStrum on my studio setup, while we were in London for a few days.

I will do a few clear explainer and demo videos soon, but right now I'm blown away by how much this software is simplifying my backend setup. One little program (drumstrum) has replaced 20 tracks of Midi routing and max processing and giving better results than I've ever had in my prior setup. It's completely agnostic about controllers and takes care of most of the undercover plumbing it requires to mix and transform midi from drums, remap pad note#'s to actions, and a few other tricks, in order to make it easier for a drummer to create melodic music in a fun and flexible way.

Stay tuned for more! by @roundingerror.nyc

My wife was attending a medical research event in London and I traded some miles to accompany her, although I spent most of the time in the room coding, testing, and looking at videos I'd hastily recorded before I left. But hey, I did get to watch the world cup in a proper English bar, which was a lot of fun. I also got to swim in the Thames. That's another story altogether...

Anyway, I think the setup's showing promise and I look forward to making this software available to others. I think that's close.

The basics are as follows: my app Drumstrum, is a small piece of software that's sitting between my two controllers in this video, EraeTouch and my Roland kit, and Ableton Live. There's also the midi fighter twister, but that's just controlling my mix.

It's not Max or Max4Live as my earlier iterations over the years. This is rewritten from the ground up in C++. It's tiny fast, and 10x more stable and capable than my Max setup by far.

So, Live is hosting a bunch of VST's whose mix is being controlled by the Midi Fighter Twister to my left. There's no recorded sequences of any kind.

More details to come!

A quick demo from my office setup where I'm building my DrumStrum app. This is just using two controllers for midi input: A McMillan Boppad and a QuNexus. The keyboard (qunexus) is supplying chords to the Drumstrum brain, which does various things with them, including saving them to the buffer, where the drums can trigger different actions on those very notes, or notes related to them.

The Boppad is set to trigger on 16 distinct regions, which is a feature I built into Boppad to get around the 4 note limits and the, ah lets say incomplete, Max4Live objects they offer. The 16 pads are outputting strumming actions that are configured in DrumStrum. There are a lot of options and you can decide how you want to configure the actions on any number of midi controllers.

DrumStrum can transform the midi from your controller to do other things too, such as pass through the chords the keyboard's playing, which in this demo are latched - ie the chord is held until you play a new chord, output GM Drum mapped notes, or any number of custom mappings. This way you can create maps to trigger things like articulations in your synths and VST's.

More will be explained and documented soon as I work hard to get a beta release up on the website. Thanks for watching! by @roundingerror.nyc

These folks were the first to even touch DrumStrum! And at least a beta will be released soon. What a great Patchbay. Thanks Tim Cox and Rob at Transmitter Brewery at the Brooklyn Navy yard. by @roundingerror.nyc

Doing some testing with my new drumstrum software, which replaces a huge amount of Max and Ableton complexity with a fairly simple workflow to combine various midi controllers to do things a drummer might like ;-)

Shit's starting to WOIK! I was excited enough with how it's progressing to spend time configuring OBS to capture better sound up in my programming lair. (As opposed to the drumming lair, which is 10 feet down. Yes my wife is a saint...)

Details soon!... by @roundingerror.nyc

Some Blamtronica with the BlamJo! My software makes it easy to mix and match midi controllers for different purposes. More to come about that. Goodbye fragile Max patches! by @roundingerror.nyc

Drummin and strumming and a whole lot more. A midi matrix and transformer app for mostly drums. Built it for arduino but decided a native app would be more convenient for many. It’s a wee tiny executable that runs in the Mac system tray. All c++ lighting fast goodness. Will run under windows too. It will have to wait two weeks for us to return from Spain for me to finish it and post betas, but building this was a lot of fun. Can’t wait to perform with it and see what others do with it. by @roundingerror.nyc
