All the fun at the fair! 🎢🎡

If there’s a thrill to be had, you can guarantee our little adrenaline junkie is there for it.

A little shout-out to the ride operators at Hull Fair, too. I was allowed on for FREE by nearly every operator we visited, as Roux’s not able to ride all of the massive rides he all of a sudden decided he preferred this year 🙃.

To all our Hull SEN families… it really is worth the ask. Don’t feel awkward about asking if there’s support available for carers. You might be surprised how accommodating they can be. Every operator will have their own policy, but it was worth the conversation.

Huge appreciation to the operators who made our day that little bit easier and helped this adrenaline junkie have the BEST time!

(Please share with any families who might not have thought to ask about carers riding with their disabled/SEN children at Hull Fair) by @rouxsarmy

Ophthalmology today for our little guy.

There was some lovely news — his right eye is looking really good, and he continues to recognise colours, shapes and objects.

His left eye, however, is a different story.

The steroid drops have helped disperse the blood clots, but we’ve now been told his eye has lost around 50% of its normal form and volume and isn’t expected to grow like his right eye. He has no sight in this eye, and we don’t believe he ever has.

Because the eye won’t grow, we have to watch as he grows for changes to his eye socket, particularly a dip in his brow. If this happens, he may eventually need procedures to support the development of the socket.

More watching. More waiting. More reason to be on high alert.

Alongside all of this, we’re currently in the middle of having to make some really big medical decisions for Roux — decisions that carry some really big risks.

Head feels a little bit full this week. There’s a lot to process, a lot to weigh up and a lot of what ifs swirling around.

His resilience really does keep us putting one foot in front of the other though, love you pudding 💙 by @rouxsarmy

💚 World Cerebral Palsy Day 💚

A little throwback to Roux with the wonderfully patient Olivia @swimlabinternational where difference doesn’t mean less and every child belongs. We wish you didn’t have to work so hard for things that most take for granted but feel incredibly lucky to have discovered the magic of places like Swim Lab.

Forever proud of our CP warrior 💚

Seven years ago, I became your mum.

And just four weeks later, I was told that you had a 10cm tumour in your brain.

I remember being terrified.

Terrified that I wouldn’t get to watch you grow, that I wouldn’t hear your laugh, that I wouldn’t get to celebrate birthdays with you.

Yet here you are! Showing the world that you aren’t the tumour. You are Roux.

Funny. Fierce. Determined. Cheeky. Loving. Completely and utterly yourself.

You have taught me that progress doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.

Sometimes progress is a first step at six years old.

Sometimes it’s navigating a climbing frame by yourself.

Sometimes it’s a smile after a really hard day.

And sometimes, progress is simply waking up and getting another day with the little boy you once feared you’d lose.

Seven years ago, I didn’t know if I’d get to write a birthday post for you.

Today, I get to write one celebrating seven years of you.

Happy 7th birthday, to the one we’re lucky enough to call ours.

You were never supposed to make this journey easy. You were always meant to make it yours.

You’re one of a kind little man, never ever stop being you, the world is a better place with you in it.

You have no idea how many people adore you, your cheekiness and your strength, we love you more than you’ll ever know.

It quite simply will always be your world and you’re just bringing everyone along for the ride - the Roux way! by @rouxsarmy

TWO VERY SPECIAL GUESTS. ONE VERY SPECIAL NIGHT.

We are SO excited to share that @sirine_music and @louismoorhouse will be joining us at our OSCAR’s Charity Ball — and they’ll both be performing LIVE for our guests.

You might recognise Sirine from Britain’s Got Talent, where she captivated the nation with her incredible voice and piano playing, reaching the semi-finals of the 2020 series.

But Sirine’s connection to OSCAR’s runs much deeper than music.

Sirine lost her sight as a child, and was later diagnosed with multiple brain tumours which had been causing damage to her optic nerves. Her story, her strength and her incredible musical talent make having her with us on the night incredibly special.

Louis was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at just 18 months old and lost his sight and some hearing as a result of his childhood cancer.

Today, he is an incredibly talented musician, producer and audio editor, and we are so excited to have him sharing his talent with us on the night.

Having met both Sirine and Louis, we have seen first-hand just how much this cause means to them, and we are beyond grateful that they have chosen to support OSCAR’s.

Cave Castle Hotel, South Cave
Friday 27th November 2026
Black Tie
Arrival from 6.30pm
Live entertainment
LIVE performance from Sirine & Louis Moorhouse
Two-course meal
Charity auction & raffle
Dancing until late and much more to be announced…

Tickets are £65 and every single ticket helps OSCAR’s support children with brain tumours and their families.

If you’ve been thinking about coming… this is your sign. by @rouxsarmy

New charity partner, Beal Homes' luxury homes show arena in Goole was opened by their guest of honour, our fundraising officer, Amy Owen.

Beal are sponsoring the Star of Hope Wall at OSCAR's upcoming black tie ball at Cave Castle in South Cave, East Yorkshire on Friday 27th November. Tickets still available...

Beal Sales and Marketing Director Ross Clarkson said: “We’re thrilled to have unveiled our latest luxury show homes at The Greenways."

“It was particularly special to welcome Amy from OSCAR’s for the occasion, underlining our support for this important charity and helping to raise its profile. It was a pleasure to invite Amy to perform the opening and we’re incredibly proud to be backing the charity’s upcoming ball."

A partnership with a company like Beal dedicated to looking after families in one way is perfect for a charity like OSCAR’s also dedicated to looking out for families.

Last month, Roux and his family took copies of When Oscar Lost His Feathers to Ward L52 at Leeds Children’s Hospital.

Roux spent many months on L52 following his brain tumour diagnosis, and still sometimes needs the incredible team there because of the medical complexities he lives with.

For OSCAR’s, being able to place our book into the hands of a ward that has played such a huge part in a child’s story is incredibly meaningful.

Dad Antony said: “This is the place where our lives changed forever, but it’s also the place where Roux’s life was saved. We know how frightening those corridors can feel for a family, so knowing these books may bring comfort, distraction, or even a little smile to another child means more than we could put into words.”

When Oscar Lost His Feathers was created to help children and families navigate the unimaginable reality of a paediatric brain tumour diagnosis — and there is perhaps no more fitting place for these books to be than here.

A huge thank you to the incredible team at Leeds Children’s Hospital for everything you do for children and families every single day.
