🐝 @gulllakehoney produces over 350,000 lbs of honey per year and has about 3000 hives across the countryside. In their shop they have goods from over 45 local artisans, fresh honey on tap, fresh garden produce, and lots of animals to visit on the property! They have a market coming up on October 3, make sure to check it out!

@gulllakesupschool is a great place to check out on warm days, and be sure to check out great views from the dock at Wilson’s Beach.

@wolfcreekgolf has two 18-hole championship courses, a driving range, on-site RV park, a restaurant and more.

🍻 @blindmanbrewery uses local ingredients to create innovative, quality and flavourful craft beer. They have non-alcoholic options for those who prefer (like me!), and their taqueria food is delicious!

Make sure you check out part 1 for historical hidden gems!

Well, Calgary. You feel like winter already and we were not ready for it @zengardenfestival last night. 🥶🤣

We’ll definitely be going back next year… but more prepared with warm clothing. At least we looked cute while it lasted? 🙈

Less than 2 weeks into meeting each other, @whoiskenzz and I attended another festival at this same location and multiple people approached us and said that we looked so in love. Which was awkward because we both felt it, but hadn’t said anything since we had literally just met.

This time was even more fun because we could be open about our feelings 😌❤️

I launched @larchlife two years ago, and a few months later I came out of the closet 🏳️‍🌈 and shook up my life. The timing could not have been worse, but it’s been a journey worth having.

My goal was to sell products that fit my set of values. Non-toxic, less wasteful & made in Canada. I spent my savings on product inventory, and quickly realized that sitting behind my computer all day was not my calling.

I started making these cutting boards, which is oddly therapeutic. I haven’t been able to keep up with demand, but I have a new plan & hope it works 🙈

I’ll be announcing a sale of other inventory shortly, as I need to create space for more boards. Keep your eyes peeled if you want to stock up on quality low-tox home products 🏡

Coming out later in life was not easy 🏳️‍🌈. It took me a long time to figure out why I always felt unsettled. Growing up in the 90s meant we (collectively) were fed the narrative that girls are destined to marry men (think of almost any Disney princess story). The Catholic Church taught me that marriage was only sacred for a man and a woman, and that physical acts of homosexuality are sinful.

Compulsory heterosexuality is the theory that heterosexuality is not a natural default, but a societal expectation enforced by a patriarchal culture.

So, I did the “right” things. I married a man, had a baby, went to therapy, had a career. And yet something always felt off.

I changed careers. Blamed past traumas for how my body was feeling. We moved multiple times. I drank alcohol to numb myself (without realizing that’s what I was doing).

It wasn’t until I stopped drinking 3.5 years ago that the layers started to peel back. I had nothing to hide behind, and I had to take life at face value. I became increasingly restless and felt trapped in my marriage, not wanting to hurt the man who I chose to build a life and a family with, but also knowing deep down I wasn’t meant to be with him. Two years into sobriety is when I realized I was gay (I had a vision/awakening moment (a story for another day) which is the inspiration behind my sleeve tattoo). When I ended my marriage, his response was more gracious than I could have expected. We decided to put our daughter first, and agreed to live under one roof (two separate homes) so she didn’t have to travel between parents.

Owning a multi-faceted business is great for some reasons (namely, my adhd brain thriving on variety), but it certainly feels like I’m being pulled in so many directions.

Sometimes it feels like I’ve made great decisions, and then other times it feels like I should have niched down and pushed through with one aspect of my business. I love everything that I do, but wearing so many “hats” can be overwhelming.

Does anyone resonate, or have any advice? 🙈

Where are you watching from? 🌎

We live in Calgary, not too far from these beautiful destinations.

No matter where you are, take steps to take better care of this place we all call home.

🤖 Reduce your usage of AI
🍎 Waste as little food as possible
🛒 Buy new only when needed
👖 Don’t follow fashion trends. Share clothing. Buy used. Swap with friends.
🎁 Gift experiences instead of things
🏠 Support small businesses, not big corps owned by greedy billionaires

Most importantly, aim for small changes at first. Being perfect is impossible, but if we all make small changes, we can collectively make a big impact 🥰

PSA: don’t blindly trust random rope swings. This one gave out on me, and luckily it only gave out by 6” and not entirely 😅

Guess which one of us was the cause of this? 🙈😅

We are usually quite prepared when it comes to food… but we somehow failed on this hike and had to call it quits before the summit. And then Rowan got stung by a wasp on the bicep. 🐝

This audio is a good reminder for all of us. We really are guests on Earth, and if we don’t start taking better care of her, our kids will not have a place to call home.

I want my kid to have rivers and lakes to swim in. Mountains to ski down. Forests to run through. Wildflowers to brighten her day. I want my kid to have clean air to breathe and clear water to drink. I want her to have a safe future, and these days it feels like the likelihood of that is plummeting faster than ever.

If you want the same things, think twice before ordering from Amazon and using AI. If we collectively stop feeding the beasts (aka billionaires), maybe we’ll have a fighting chance.

Positive actions you can take 🌎
Start supporting local businesses
Only buy new things when you need them
Talk to your community/family/friends about the importance of taking care of our home

What are some actions that you’re taking?

When I organize homes @larchlifeorganizing I teach client how to make conscious consumer choices. I help my clients create systems so they know what they have and where it is, preventing them from overconsumption (of food, clothing, toys, etc.). Less is more, for your mind and for the planet. ❤️🌎

📍 top secret 👀

We believe that in order to preserve nature, some places shouldn’t be geotagged. A little research can go a long way when trying to find magical camping spots.

Years ago Rowan asked a creator where a video was taken, and the creators response was “choose your own adventure.” Initially, Rowan thought that was weird. Now she gets it. Not everyone follows the principles of leave no trace, so we need to keep some spaces sacred.

What’s your take on this?

First thing’s first… we ferociously try to avoid getting bit by bugs.

Highly recommend packing
🌺 a flower press for adventure days. You’ll find some at @larchlife
🌴 a hammock or two
🚣🏽 some sort of water vessel
🎨 art supplies
🦟 a screen room to keep biters away

What do you always remember to pack?
