When that magic light hits juuuust right ✨

This is the little water closet corner of our primary bathroom, remodeled before I embarked on the design school journey. The whole remodel was in fact, what inspired me to pivot to interior design in the first place! But that’s a story for another day…

After the plumbing was installed and the walls were painted, I was aghast by what I saw - this was a blank, white box of a room. I didn’t know anything at that point about design principles or what an elevation was; this was a room I neglected to consider, and it showed.

I mulled over how to correct this design tragedy - to wallpaper or not to wallpaper? Should we limewash the walls? Ultimately I found this mirror - it was budget friendly, offered the illusion of space, and gave the eye something to settle on. The ledge for collected artifacts and plants helped breathe life into this corner.

Most of the time design is intentional and well-executed. When the occasional design disaster strikes, it calls for some out-of-the-box thinking. Sometimes the result can endear and even become one of our favorite elements. by @rowm.design

Celebrating the completion of my very last design studio class this week - with a little sleep, a lot of binge-watching my fav shows, and putting my son to bed in the evenings!

The last four years of design school have been challenging, intense, at times inspiring and fun, but mostly all-consuming. I’ve definitely questioned my decision to be in school when it’s not a requirement to be an interior designer in CA, but something in me wanted the satisfaction of knowing that I completed something I started.

Even though I still have to take a portfolio class in January (ha!), finishing the last STUDIO class means I’ve wrapped up the most comprehensive course of my program.

Sharing a few pages from my final project presentation titled “Ripples of the Same Pond” - the 1st floor of a mixed-use commercial/student housing complex set in downtown Berkeley.

The theme is centered around the idea that our worlds are smaller and more interconnected than we know, and that thoughtful design can help to elevate everyday living, foster kindness, and build community. by @rowm.design

Stumbled across some photos of my earlier school projects from a few years ago, when I was still a fresh, doe-eyed design student. I’m nostalgic for the days when the work was entirely tactile and done by hand!

I DON’T love the piles of drafting and art supplies that I amassed and can’t seem to let go of (“Someday you might get inspired and use these again!” My hoarding brain yells). Can anyone else relate to this?? by @rowm.design

In social media timeline, my LA trip was a lifetime ago, but it’s still so fresh in my mind!

While perusing design shops, we were serendipitously led to a showroom that is housed in a Frank Gehry-designed historical home. The volume of this light-filled space, along with the fenestration (I see you, fellow design nerds!) and space planning were so inviting and lovely. The kitchen with its tile countertops and simple, clean color palette were especially memorable.

Sometimes an unexpected detour can evolve to be the best path taken 🤍 by @rowm.design

Chasing The Light

Round 2 of LA showroom photos! The theme is Lighting. I have so much more of an appreciation for vintage lighting these days. I love the uniqueness of vintage pieces, their patina, and how pieces that come with some age and history add more depth and richness to spaces. by @rowm.design

Back from the most inspirational and fun design trip to LA with @evgenia.merson!

My heart is full from experiencing so much beauty, artistry, and connection 🥰

And it wouldn’t be LA without a celeb sighting. We ran into Jeremiah Brent in our hotel lobby! Yes, he is every bit as gorgeous in person as he is on screen (sorry, no pics, but I wish I asked for a selfie!) by @rowm.design

Seeing all the beautiful things is really tickling every hoarding bone in my body. Lord knows what my house would look like if I could afford all the things! by @rowm.design

The display of this moulding & trim showroom sparked much joy for me ☺️ Maybe it’s the immaculate organization, maybe it’s the tactile nature of the moulding samples - something I typically see drawn out in profile but rarely connect with the three dimensional product. Whatever the reason, this little fieldtrip made an impression on me.

And how cool is it that you can stack different moulding to build up the height and architectural style you want? by @rowm.design

A colorful and textural home that I had the pleasure of working on! Floral sourcing and food prop sourcing are some of my favorite parts of prepping for a photoshoot.

Shopping for produce not for their taste and function in a recipe, but entirely for their form and colors is a kind of a trip! (although sometimes we do eat the tastier props at the end of a shoot 😋)

These photos have been hiding in the abyss of my phone, patiently awaiting their moment since last summer (gulp). But alas, the moment has arrived!

From an epic sourcing trip with @evgenia.merson to NYC, these showrooms blew my little design heart and mind wide open. The bespoke designs, attention to design details, color drenched spaces, and unconventional use of spaces gave me endless inspiration and appreciation for the designers and makers who dreamed up these beautiful works of art for us to enjoy. So grateful for this incredible trip and opportunity!

(I’m manifesting the next sourcing trip /inspiration mecca as I type…☺️)

After a year+ of putting it off, I finally made the move - I bifurcated my IG interior design profile from my fashion/OOO profile!

What originally started as a declutterring of our garage space somehow spilled into a declutterring of photos and social media, ha! Funny how just like clutter can spread, so can declutterring in the best way possible.

Looking forward to sharing design related posts on this account going forward. Hope you’ll hang with me for the ride!
