My sweet Gotten. To know my grandma was to love her. My grandma was the sweetest woman, and an even sweeter grandma. She had the most contagious smile and kept that wonderful smile throughout everything.

My grandma was such an incredible light throughout my entire life and in everyone’s life she was a part of. She taught me how to sew, how to crochet, how to make her delicious banana pudding, how to be a good listener, and so much more. When I was little, she would take my pencil out of my left hand and try to make me be right-handed because she knew it would be easier for me when I was older. It never worked, though. That was my Grandma.

Seeing her smiling in the audience every time I performed, whether it was on a stage or even just in the living room, is something I’m truly going to miss. I’m going to miss all of our talks, her laugh, the musicals we’d go watch, the back-to-school fashion shows, Papa’s lasagna (that Grandma always cooked), singing for her, the Red Red Robin that came bob, bob, bobbin’ along, and so much more.

I don’t think I could ever fully express the impact my grandma had on me or how much I love her. She was always there for me. She would listen to all of my little problems and always celebrate the good moments with me, too. She made wherever she was feel like home.

Cancer really, really sucks, but I know Grandma is so happy up in Heaven, and that Aunt Roxye threw that party for her that she promised. I know she’s watching over me and my entire family now, and is so excited to be reunited with all of her siblings.

I know I’ll see her in every butterfly that flies by and every beautiful sunrise and sunset. This is an incredibly hard goodbye, and one she wasn’t ready to say yet, but I know she is so happy up in Heaven with God now.
