HAPPY Craniofacial Awareness Month!!
This month is about celebrating everyone who has overcame the challenges & obstacles that come along with having a craniofacial difference. As you grow up, having this kind of difference in your life may make you more insecure than someone who doesn’t have that challenge, and care what others say about you. I’ve always been the kind of person who doesn’t let that bother me, because I know who I am, but of course sometimes it can get to me.

I recently learned it is Craniofacial Awareness Month and I thought I’d take this opportunity to share with everyone that even with these kind of differences, you can still adapt and grow like any person next to me.

I’d like to share a bit about my story-
I was born 11 weeks early with a syndrome called Nager Syndrome. This affects my jaw & makes my jaw joint non-functioning (limited opening), my arms/hands (contracted elbows), hearing (bone conducted hearing aids), talking, the way I can eat & breathing.

When I was born this did not allow me to breathe so I had to have a trach immediately. I’ve had a total of 34 surgeries all relating to Nager Syndrome. I have overcome it all by my determination by adapting to literally everything. I don’t think the doctors I had when I was younger saw me going to college and living independently an hour away from my parents. This just proves that all the hard work & perseverance pays off in the end and my journey still has a long ways to go 🩷 #nagersyndromewarrior #dontjudgeabookbyitscover by @roxyygcooper
