What makes a watch truly special? 
Is it its rarity, its provenance, the story behind it, or simply the ability to recognize something exceptional when you see it?

For @roydavidoff, this instinct was shaped from an early age. Growing up in Geneva in a family rooted in jewelry and precious stones, he discovered vintage watches as a teenager. What began as curiosity gradually became a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, collecting and expertise.
Today, Roy is a collector, dealer and historian, and the co-founder of @davidoffbrothers with his brother Sasha. But his relationship with watches goes far beyond collecting.

In this new episode of HORMÊ, we talk about what happens when curiosity becomes obsession, expertise and, ultimately, a way of life.

We discuss the art of looking closely: reading a dial, identifying a case maker’s signature, tracing a serial number, understanding provenance and archives, and recognizing the details that can reveal a watch’s true story.

Roy also shares the story behind building a business with his brother : a partnership grounded in absolute trust and complementary personalities, and speaks candidly about the less visible realities of success: financial risks, scams, mistakes, exhaustion and the pressure of making decisions in an industry where knowledge and trust are everything.

After decades spent searching for exceptional watches, Roy still experiences the same feeling that drew him into this world as a teenager: “This is special.”

An episode about watches, certainly. But also about family, memory, obsession, expertise and the stories we choose to preserve.

SOLD: The Audemars Piguet 25679BA is an exceptionally rare 18k yellow gold “mini” or “baby” perpetual calendar wristwatch, produced in the early 1990s.
