Meet NOVA. The newest chapter for ROYTER, and the absolute culmination of my watchmaking journey.

This watch is the result of years of hard work, endless trials, and mastering my craft. It’s a 39mm steel watch, just 9.7mm thick, featuring a hand-engraved and lacquered dial as well as my new caliber BNR-01 developed alongside Andreas Strehler and his amazing team of professionals at UhrTeil AG. who helped make my dream a reality.

Crafting these timepieces in the USA is a profound honor. From the raw components to the final regulation, everything is done by hand in my Brooklyn atelier. Having ‘New York’ on the dial reflects my pride in elevating American horology. To ensure this technical watch never loses its soul, I personally build every single one, strictly limiting production to 12 pieces a year.

But beyond the watchmaking, NOVA means the world to me because of the community behind it. It represents the incredible friendships I’ve built over the years, the people who have inspired me, and every single supporter who helped me achieve this dream. I am deeply grateful to all of you.

Twelve watches. Twelve opportunities to make something truly personal.

This is ROYTER Caliber BNR-01.
Mechanics transformed into poetry in motion.

Designed, hand decorated, assembled and regulated in Brooklyn, NY.
Co-developed alongside master watchmaker Andreas Strehler’s UhrTeil AG.

30mm diameter, 139 components, 17 jewels, 60-hour power reserve, Free-sprung balance, hacking seconds, adjusted in 6 positions for chronometric precision.
Hand-finished to haute horlogerie standards: rhodium-plated brass bridges with hand-frosted surfaces, with interior and exterior beveled angles, black-polished steel screws and click spring, gilded wheels with beveled spokes, perlage on the mainplate, and hand-engraved 18k solid gold nameplates.

Nova - From raw metal to a breathing pulse on the wrist.

For me, the real measure of craftsmanship is the final result and the human intent behind it. It comes down to achieving a level of execution that a machine simply cannot replicate. When you look at an interior angle on a bridge or the way light plays across hand engraved dial surfaces, the value is not in how many hours I sat at the bench working on it. The value is in the visual poetry and the undeniable human signature embedded in the metal.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about the transition between polished anglage and frosted surfaces.
The intricate beveling, the sharp, defined edges, and then the way those bevels flow seamlessly into the frosted area. It’s a detail that looks simple until you understand how difficult it is to execute.

Creating this transition cleanly is extremely demanding and can only be achieved by hand. The bevel has to remain crisp and precise right up to the point where it meets the frosted surface, with no softness, waviness, or loss of definition.

Then there are the polished jewel sinks, a small details, but incredibly challenging to execute cleanly. Their polished surfaces add another layer of contrast against the surrounding frosting and bevels, highlighting just how much precision goes into the finishing.

The black polished screws are another detail in themselves with the deep black polish, perfectly chamfered slots, and crisp circumference require an exceptional level of precision.

These are the kinds of details that may go unnoticed at first glance, but they speak volumes about the level of craftsmanship and technical precision involved.

Fellow indy watchmaking fans, listen up: This is Brooklyn-based @danroyter @royterwatches’ Nova, with a focus on extensive hand finishing and engraving from the dial to the movement and case. It’s stunning. These are just a couple of initial shots for a feature in the upcoming issue of @watchtimemagazine with more details and pics to come by @royterwatches

Designing these bridges was a quiet opportunity to challenge my own craft and push my finishing further. This exterior corner is easily one of the most demanding details on this barrel bridge because the tip is so thin, hangs over the barrel, and has no underlying support, I can't put any real pressure on it while finishing without risking bending or ruining it. One slip of the file and it’s a scrap. Spending hours of slow, careful work to bring this point to a sharp, balanced shine is a humbling process, and I’m deeply grateful to share this level of detail with you..

The dial of the NOVA is much more than a dial to me. It represents art, patience, craftsmanship, and above all, friendship.

Each dial is hand engraved by my dear friend Artur Akmaev @arturakmaev_watches, whom I met in 2022. Since then, we’ve become very close friends, and I’m incredibly grateful to have him as part of this journey.

Artur is one of the most talented engravers I know, but even more special is the person he is. Humble, kind, genuine, and deeply passionate about his craft.

I’m deeply grateful to have Artur not only as a collaborator, but as a friend. The NOVA is, in many ways, a reflection of our friendship and shared love for art and watchmaking.

No pad printing, no applied numerals. Just a graver and the steady hand of an artist.
Every single numeral is meticulously hand-engraved, making no two dials exactly alike. Each chapter ring represents a dedication to pure craftsmanship and an emotion that will last an eternity.
