28 April 2022 was a very special day for us and captain Omar.

Omar’s Qafelah dhow sailed for the first time on this day. I was lucky to be on the first sunset sailing trip, one of many more sunsets in the future inshallah 🤍

Earlier this year it was an idea, we wanted to gift Omar a new dhow, a real asset under his name. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my amazing @Qaflh big hearted travelers. Thanks to everyone who believed and supported me in turning Omar’s dream into a reality.

Traveling is not just about taking nice photos and making viral videos, ethical travel is about having an impact in making someone’s life better after your visit.

Omar who is roughly 70 years old has worked on other people’s dhows his whole life.

When I asked Omar if he thought this day will come so soon “owning his own dhow”, he said he always thought he will die before he could see this day.

Qafelah is the name we chose to name the dhow because it was @qaflh what brought all of these amazing travelers to Lamu. Qaflh aka to travel together in groups. Indeed we are a tribe bonded by kindness.

This is an achievement like no other. I couldn’t be prouder of myself and everyone who believed and supported me in making Omar’s dream a living reality 🤍
