Early notice of Statedancer winter gigs in November, which are now lined up. we’re really looking forward to playing Including new songs from our next record, as well as our seasoned classics that a lot of you won’t have heard either, so it’s a win-win situation - a realm of discovery for all. The dates are: Dulcimer Bar, Chorlton Cum Hardy Saturday 14th November. Head Bar, Stretford Friday 20th November and The Spinning Top, Stockport- Saturday 28th November. This post was inspired by my love of Look-In magazine, which my mum first used to buy me from the mid 1970s onwards and was the junior tv times comic in the UK. It had comic strips of the favourite tv shows and bands of the time as well as a double page poster that you could pin up on your bedroom wall. So many iconic covers, which I’ve sampled here- no AI all photoshopped lovingly. #gigs #manchester #stockport #lookin magazine #manchestermusic taken in Manchester, United Kingdom by @rstatedancer

This is the song we’re finishing our live set playing. ‘With My Reputation’. It’s taken from our third record released in 2019, called ‘Sawing Through The Wrong Leg’. The title of the song is Inspired by one of the regular sketches on The Fast Show (a UK comedy sketch show) and the theme of it is inspired by things like the movie ‘Snatch’ by Guy Ritchie. We were also thinking about the 1970s cop shows like The Sweeney, or The Professionals. Finally in the mix is an essence of the old Pearl & Dean Theme tune, which was mainly played in UK cinemas, (again in the 1970s) showing the local adverts, before the main feature film, started. I always wanted to write something that had a percussive chorus of ‘Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba…’ in it. It is available to stream on all denominations of musical services. #1970 #cop #pearlanddean #retrô #vintage #vinylrecord #voxcontinental #singersongwriter #mentalhealth #dancing #swinging #swingingsixties #musica #guitarist #manchester #manchestermusic #kpm taken in Manchester, United Kingdom by @rstatedancer

*Sound on.* Our third gig in November is at The Spinning Top, in Stockport, Greater Manchester, UK on Saturday 28th. Next door to the Garrick theatre and very near the Hat Museum. It couldn’t really be any more central. It struck me that after living in the town for five years and a regular visitor here, I can’t believe I’ve never been in The Spinning Top, criminal really, so I hope this is the first of many times that we play there. The venue is a top music work horse staging live gigs for local, national and international artists most days of the year. It opened in 2014, before that it was an Indian restaurant! Twelve years and still going strong. We are on the bill with a few other artists, listed on the above reel and on stage around 10:30pm, closing the evening. Free entry. Can’t wait. ✨🙌🏻✨#stockport #livemusic #collage #fendertelecaster #gig taken in Stockport by @rstatedancer

*sound on* It’s felt a bit more magical walking around Manchester City centre over the last couple of weeks, as you’ll no doubt see from the pictures I’ve posted. Firstly in the last few days these remarkable animal sculptures have landed on the Spinningfields side of the city, near and on Deansgate, created by the incredible Gillie and Mark @gillieandmarcart #gillieandmarcart to be honest to have these in this City really is an honour. Their character shines through and they look a lot more alive than a lot of people who wander around the Salford Border here. There is a more serious message behind their presence though, Gillie and Marc want people to think about the plight of endangered species around the planet and donate for ‘Love the Last Wildlife’ if you’re able to, or as they put it ‘is fighting for the world’s most endangered species — the ones standing on the very edge of survival. From remote jungles to city streets, we use art and action to give wildlife a voice and inspire people everywhere to love and protect them. These animals are more than statistics — they are families, stories, and souls. When the last one is gone, a part of us disappears too.’ If you are heading into Manchester soon, take time out to look at them, cherish them while they’re still here…. Beyond the wonder of these sculptures, further down towards Deansgate/Castlefield you can find pop up art galleries- dormant shop fronts converted… displaying the art on canvas of some of the cities best local artists, including @benarkart @liambononi @richardblunt @robpointonartist @l7matrix and others - so it pays to slow down and notice the artistic wonders only a couple of feet to the side of you…. They don’t hang around long, when I arrived a week later, one of the impromptu galleries had gone and another had completely different canvases displayed. Understandably snapped up. #art #sculpture #manchesterart #mural taken in Manchester, United Kingdom by @rstatedancer

We had a great evening playing at Head Bar in Stretford, May of Last year. We meant to return sooner, but here we are in the honeymoon period of Autumn. Another pub in Greater Manchester that everyone should visit if they’re in the locale. You would be forgiven for thinking Head Bar was more of an art gallery with a bar… and a snooker table. There are some fantastic pieces of art and mosaics on the wall, I found myself wandering around gazing up at them, almost forgetting we had to play… and then, while we were setting up our gear before the gig, I was chatting to a lovely bloke called Elvis, (who, funnily enough, was wearing a white diamond encrusted jumpsuit) Strange that no one else seems to remember seeing him…. Anyway, we will be returning to Head Bar in Stretford on Friday 20th November, free entry. All welcome. #manchestermusicscene #vintage #livemusic #music #mentalhealth taken in Stretford Town Centre by @rstatedancer

One of the original ‘video nasties’, but it had so much more to it than that. There’s a wealth of things to celebrate in An American Werewolf in London (1981) how forward looking, forward thinking, and completely ground breaking in film making that it was. John Landis as the director and writer had faith in his cast, crew and production team to allow & encourage their improvisation, suggestions and embrace the accidental occurrences that happened during the takes. He also had the best f***ing special FX producer in the business @therickbaker to deal with werewolf transformation duties. Oh lord. Pre digital, who would tackle a scene where a man has to become a werewolf in a brightly lit room, no smoke or mirrors… in 1981? Rick Baker, that’s who. He pulled out the proverbial horror FX sword from the stone, and it still stands up to scrutiny today. Unsurprisingly, he received an Oscar for it. Watching this scene and the whole film, is a rite of passage for any horror film fan. As a precursor to Halloween watch it again… or watch it for the first time… it’s just turned 45 years old. I saw it firstly in Dublin in 1982 aged 12 on pirate VHS while my family partied downstairs 😂 I’ve never looked back since. ✨🙌🏻✨#horror #americanwerewolfinlondon #frankoz #johnlandis #jennyagutter taken in Underground-Tottenham Court Road by @rstatedancer

Rehearsals are now well underway for our full band winter gigs in November. The first one is @dulcimerbar and we’re really looking forward to playing here for the first time. It’s one of the great music venues in the town who love to support local musicians and regularly celebrate live music, plus everyone should visit Chorlton-cum-Hardy at least once in their life, especially if you’re not a resident of Greater Manchester and can’t just hop on your bicycle or the bus. The Bee Gees lived here in the 1950s as lads and performed for the first time in Chorlton. Damon Gough of @badlydrawnboyofficial lives here. I used to see him walking once around the block, buying bread. Quentin Crisp sadly actually died in Chorlton, plus those old enough to remember the wonderful stop frame animation children’s show from the 1970s ‘Chorlton & The Wheelies’ which was named after here and made in Chorlton by Cosgrove Hall Studios. It’s free entry and we will also be playing some of the new songs coming up on our sixth album, due to be released spring/summer of 2027. as well as playing the favourites from our back catalogue. #chorlton #beegees #manchester #singersongwriter #vintage taken in Chorlton-cum-Hardy by @rstatedancer

Going to the parks in Orlando is probably the closest we’ll get to visiting Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Even though we can no longer ask Roald Dahl if he was partly thinking of Walt Disney when he wrote the book. Walking down Main Street is a very trippy experience indeed, without actually having to take any substances. Abi was regularly talking to and taking selfies with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. I had cartoon birds land on my shoulder, although that was later on after I’d had a few margaritas from the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot. There’s something of interest for all ages. Nobody gets left out. Although I would say - wait until your children are ten or older before you take them, we saw so many very small babies and toddlers struggling & screaming in the 104 degree heat. Plus they won’t even remember it. We walked on average 25,000 steps a day, so your feet are wondering what the hell is going on… but it’s worth it! In this collection of photos are quite a few of my favourite randoms from Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and a fantastic nature reserve we drove to in our rental car. The new Muppet ride at Hollywood Studios is superb ✨👌🏻#waltdisneyworld #waltdisney #hollywoodstudios #muppets #animalkingdomdisney taken in Magic Kingdom by @rstatedancer

If you love the classic Universal movie Monsters of the 1930s or just your common garden macabre, then Dark Universe is the park for you to visit, which is one of the new Universal parks that have opened in Orlando over the last year. I’ve been a big fan of the classic horror actors like Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester since I was a kid and have had figures of them as Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster and the Bride for years, so to ride ‘Monster’s Unleashed’ was a real thrill. Highly recommended if you ever get chance to go. A very immersive experience, the attention to detail superb. It will be the place to visit at Halloween, and I spotted what seemed to be a bus load of Emos in wearing black wandering around. I also went on the Velocicoaster (Jurassic Park themed) which is not for the faint hearted, let’s just leave it at that. After a massive thunder storm we wandered over to Harry Potter land. #florida #darkuniverse #frankenstein #universal taken in Orlando, Florida by @rstatedancer

Rather than watching the night time fireworks which take place every evening from The Magic Kingdom, you can easily watch them at Disney’s Hawaiian themed Polynesian Resort instead, its preferable, as it’s so peaceful and calm, you can sit out on the beach, pull up a deck chair and gaze up across the lake. I Prefer this rather than having to deal with the mad crowds at MK. One fact about the Polynesian Resort, which lots of Beatles fans will probably know already: In late December of 1974, John Lennon put pen to paper and officially dissolved The Beatles here. While they had publically announced their breakup years before, this final moment officially sealed the fate of the band. John and May planned to spend Christmas in Florida, leaving New York for West Palm Beach. After the holiday, an Apple lawyer brought the contract for Lennon to sign at Disney World, where he was staying at the Polynesian Village Hotel. So with the Magic Kingdom as his backdrop, he picked up his pen and officially finished off the Beatles right then and there. The date was Dec. 29, 1974. The actual room they stayed in is contested - different people state different things, put apocryphally it was said to be in Room 1601. #polynesianresort #beatles #waltdisneyworldresort #fireworks #disney taken in Disney's Polynesian Resort by @rstatedancer
