I KNOW YOU SEE HIM 🗣️ Sat down with the first player of Filipino heritage to play in the @nba— Warriors alum, Raymond Townsend. Incredible to pick his brain about growing up in San Jose, his success, the path he paved for others, pouring back into the community, his Filipino pride and so much more for the @warriors Filipino Heritage Night pregame Chalk Talk.

Salamat, @rt.basketball11! by @rt.basketball11

Meet the first Filipino-American to ever play in the NBA, Raymond Townsend Jr - a true pioneer in basketball history. From his roots at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, to winning an NCAA championship at UCLA under legendary coach John Wooden, his journey is nothing short of inspiring.

Drafted in the first round by the Golden State Warriors, Townsend carved out a place in NBA history, later going on to the Intercontinental Cup overseas. But his legand doesn't stop there - today, he's mentoring youth through basketball and using his platform to speak on diversity, representation. and giving back to the next generation.

A story of heritage, hard work, and hope.

Special moment between two Filipino trailblazers 🇵🇭❤️ NBA icon Raymond Townsend, who played in the NBA from 1978-1982, got to meet current superstar Jalen Green during the Warriors Filipino Heritage Night game against the Rockets.

San Jose, Raymond’s hometown, will officially be proclaiming a Raymond Townsend Day in honor of his lifelong contributions of the community. He will be honored on Tuesday, April 29 from 11 AM - 1:45 PM at the SJ City Hall Rotunda.
