Earlier, we shared the helical piles that carry this home’s foundation deep into stable bearing material below a FEMA VE Zone site.

This is the next layer.

Reinforced concrete grade beams tie the foundation system together, creating the structural base for the home above and helping transfer loads through the foundation to the piles below.

On a coastal site exposed to flooding, erosion and wave action, what happens below the house matters just as much as what will eventually be visible above it.

There are few in the world that can make a house foundation look like a work of art. @rtalpey makes it look like it has been CNC machined. Check out these progress photos showing the footing and walls pre pour/post strip. 176 yards went into this one - it’s deceiving to the eye, but those walls are big boys, plus the huge section with in the middle and towards the side. You can also tell when the wildfire smoke from Canada hit here in Madison, CT. The homeowners and the framers will be happy with one.

Not much for photos but wall we just wrapped up for @uccellofinehomes. Had tire erupt on trip back to her last load of forms and @markmeadows56 coming through with emergency tire service at 5 pm on a Saturday. Why we always use @americanconcretepumping if we’re in their area.

@rtalpey and the crew came out to coastal Rhode Island to form, pour, and strip this concrete foundation just in time for the spring New England weather. This project included shelf, corners, drops, rebar, and more. Using @westernforms and donning @studsonsafety helmets, they knocked this one out of the park for @srfinehomebuilders.

The crews you choose say as much about a build as the drawings do.

@rtalpey and team came to Aquidneck Island for this foundation — outside their usual range, and a real vote of confidence from a partner whose standards match ours.

The footage shows why it matters: a concrete vibrator worked down through the full depth of the pour, consolidating the mix so the wall cures dense and true. Up top, a jig screeding the surface dead level.
