Calling the Short Course at RTJ Grand National a “short course” almost feels like selling it, well… Short.

This isn’t a pitch-and-putt or a collection of wedge holes. It’s an 18-hole, championship-caliber par three course where just about any hole could be lifted from its routing and dropped onto RTJ Grand National’s Lake or Links courses without feeling at all out of place.

The holes have excellent length, real strategy and plenty of challenge, with large greens, elevation changes, bunkering, water carries and some spectacular settings along Lake Saugahatchee. You get much of the scale, beauty and architectural interest of the two championship courses at Grand National - just distilled into 18 great one-shot holes!

Short courses and alternative golf experiences have become one of the biggest trends in golf over the past several years, including here in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest. RTJ Grand National has been doing it since the property opened in 1992.

And after playing it, it’s easy to understand why the Short Course has become such a popular part of a visit to Auburn/Opelika and the fabulous @rtjgolftrail

No driver required. No setup shots. Just 18 chances to hit a great golf shot - and plenty of opportunities to pay for a bad one.

The Judge is back and better than ever.

Some exciting features of the updated Judge include redesigned and resurfaced TifEagle Bermuda greens, upgraded bunkers, metal sheet piling lining the river holes, new bridges, repaired cart paths, and new irrigation on all greens.

Golfers will find that the Judge offers more playable green complexes and an improved pace of play.

Aesthetically, the site’s natural beauty is on full display with open views of the landscape. Extensive tree work has provided greater visibility of the Alabama River.

When are you teeing it up on the Judge at Capitol Hill?
