The other part of my Gemini soul (if that’s a thing) is being surrounded by people I love and adore. Again, I feel very fortunate to have so many wonderful family and friends — in Maine and elsewhere. You are all part of who I am, contributing your love, energy, and ideas. It’s no secret that I, like many teachers, treasure (and need, quite frankly) the quiet that can come with summer. It helps to ground me and reset my nervous system in a job that has become significantly more demanding over my three decades in 7th grade. I am, oh-so-deeply grateful to be able to rent friends’ stunning cottage, on the water, in the woods, way up in Penobscot Bay. The sound of the wind in the trees, the scent of the piney trees, the chirps and squawks of the birds, the magic of the moss… it’s good for my soul. I wish for every teacher to find out the calm they need this summer. by @rtw180

Dear Teacher Friends, I desperately hope that you can use some time this summer to rest and recover after increasingly challenging times in the classroom. First attempt with using our cherries this way: the recipe says 21 days, 15 minutes and then we will have Portuguese Ginjinha, a sour cherry aperitif or digestive. Anyone have other recommendations/favorites for cherries? taken in Somerville, Massachusetts by @rtw180

It was a ton of fun to roam around. Boston this weekend and interact with the Scots or what they’ve left behind: joy, whimsy, goofy love. My heart is swelling with love and pride as my cheeks hurt from smiling (and now I’m exhausted with my feet up): my younger son, Charlie, graduated from the absolutely amazing #collegeoftheatlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. He has been surrounded by the most amazing friends, peers, faculty, and community members (not to mention the ocean, mountains, forests, flora and fauna). He is now technically a Human Ecologist, which includes being a potter, farmer, beekeeper, sauna-builder, rock climber, and metal-worker, among other Renaissance Man skills. He has studied insects, photography, moss, rivers, GIS, philosophy, public speaking, maritime navigation, and oh-so-much more!
