📍Looking for clean perfumes you can actually try IRL?
I tried the Cherry Stem by Phlur at Space NK and yeah, it smells good.
It’s phthalate-free, uses a water-forward base, and leans fruity, spicy, slightly provocative. 🍒🔥
But like most perfumes, it still hides behind “Fragrance / Parfum”, and includes common allergens like Limonene and Coumarin.
Start with Space NK, but go informed.
➡️ Is it the worst? No.
➡️ Is it fully transparent? Not quite.

Honestly… I didn’t think anyone else felt this way.

When I started reacting to perfumes I used to love, I thought it was just me. Thought I was being “sensitive.” Thought I’d have to give it all up.

But sharing little parts of my story has made one thing really clear:
I’m not alone.

So this is a big thank you, to everyone who’s messaged, commented, shared their own experience (privately or publicly), and just made this feel less isolating.

What started as a quiet shift in my lifestyle has turned into something I want to investigate and understand more deeply. I’ve been learning how to craft scent the clean, conscious way, and I’ve been diving into the truth behind what’s really in our bottles.

The more I share, the more I hear.
The more I learn, the less I can ignore.

People will say “clean perfume” is just a marketing angle. But the migraines, the skin reactions, the cloudiness? That’s not marketing. That’s my body talking.

I didn’t even know “clean beauty” was a thing before I started feeling the effects. But now I do. And I won’t un-know it.

So I’m staying curious. Asking better questions. Documenting what I find.
And I’m grateful that so many of you are here with me.

When deeper skin tones are irritated, they are more likely to develop dark marks or uneven patches afterwards. What starts as a small reaction can turn into pigmentation that hangs around.

This does not mean you can never wear perfume. It means your melanin deserves extra care in what you choose and where you spray. Your skin tone is not something you should have to sacrifice for a bottle.

Sometimes it is not “just you”. It might actually be the perfume.

If you are getting headaches, brain fog, or darker/red around the areas you spray, your body is giving you feedback. You are not being dramatic.

You do not have to stop wearing scent. You might just need a formula that respects you back.

Here’s the truth:

🚫 In the U.S. and many other countries, brands are not legally required to list the full ingredients in their fragrance.
They can hide hundreds of chemicals under the single word:
“Fragrance” or “Parfum.”

Even in the UK:
✨ Brands aren’t required to list most of the ingredients in their scent blends.
✨ Just a few common allergens — the rest? Hidden under “parfum.”

Why?
Because it’s considered a “trade secret.”
That means the formula is protected , but your health isn’t.

For consumers who care about what we put on and into our bodies, this feels backward.
Especially when “clean” and “non-toxic” are slapped on the front of the bottle… and silence on the back.

As someone who used to spray before checking, I get how easy it is to miss.
That’s why I started paying attention. And now?
I ask what’s inside. I read the fine print.
I sleuth.
