Cost of living in the #dominicanrepublic 🇩🇴

👨🏽‍💻 Following a comment I made on @thejamiegruber's IG post about the cost of living in #puntacana, here's some context 🤓:

I’m a USA citizen, lived in NY for over 20 years, but I’m a native Dominican. In 2022, I came back to the #dominicanrepublic to work on a personal project, so I had to make some adjustments in my life 😣.

#puntacana is one of the most beautiful and secure cities in the country and, of course, expensive 💵😖. For many Dominicans, living there isn't as affordable as other places in the country.

Here's a breakdown of my cost of living in DR in a not-so-rich neighborhood 😂😂 for a family of three in USA dollars:

📚 Private bilingual school: $300/m
🛒 Full month of groceries: $500/m
🏥 Health insurance: $200/m
🛜 Fiber optic internet: $60/m
📱 Cellphone service: $50/m
💡 Electric bill: about $70/m
🚘 Car payment with insurance: $340/m
🏡 Apartment in a gated community: $400/m
⛽️ Gas for the car: $200/m
💨 Propane tank: $50/m
🧹 Housekeeper help: $100/m

➕➗➖🟰 Total: $2,270

This right here is middle-high class living 😎, and obviously, many of these expenses will vary month to month. Yet, this total is just what I was paying in NY for a 1-bedroom apartment and car insurance only 🥹.

Thankfully, I have the flexibility of doing business remotely and running a local business.
