We went to The Leopard Bar at @rubenshotel for the illy Espresso Martini launch and left with leopard-print crema, gold leaf on a sandwich, and no immediate plans to sleep.

Opposite the Royal Mews. Brown leather sofas you have to negotiate your way out of. A bronze leopard watching you order a second one. Malcolm, the hotel manager, corrected the room on the invention story (not Kate Moss — a barman, Dick Bradsell, next to an illy machine). Lucio had the glasses. Frank has worked here for 25 years and is considered a legend. The horses outside have probably already told him their opinions.

What we drank: the Classic (£18, illy, Ketel One, Kahlúa, maple syrup, spotted crema) and the Velvet 0% (£15). The 0% did not save us. That is the finding.
Launch canapés, because a launch that only pours is just a Tuesday: coffee & balsamic figs in goat’s cheese parcels, espresso-rubbed beef carpaccio, pork belly with an illy maple glaze, steak sandwiches with caviar and gold leaf, tempura tiger prawns & soft-shell crab with Ketel One lime aioli, truffle arancini, wild mushroom tart, an Espresso Martini chocolate éclair and a tiramisù ice cream sandwich.
