One month ago today: City Hall, our families, and the full beautiful chaos of New York as our witness.

A little ceremony, a lot of love, and a room that somehow held worlds together.

Love, made official. 🖤

Stepping into my new role as a Senior Manager covering all U.S. Lateral Associates at Latham & Watkins feels like the culmination of years of hard work, grit, and growth — and the beginning of something even bigger. Standing beneath the Rockefeller Christmas Tree with this exceptionally talented team, celebrating 40 years of Latham in NYC (seriously, the firm rented out all of Rock Center!), I felt the weight and the honor of leading in a place that inspires excellence every day. Grateful for the journey that brought me here and energized for the work ahead. ✨🎄 taken in Rockefeller Center by @rubhatt

My first day at @mlaglobal was at the firm’s annual meeting in 2008, so it's only appropriate that my last time with everyone at the firm is at this year’s global summit. I'm so grateful to @mlaglobal for inviting me out to see everyone and celebrate the company’s incredibly talented recruiters. What a way to say farewell! The friends I have made here will last a lifetime. 🥺 taken in Scottsdale, Arizona by @rubhatt

It's been one year since I received the harrowing call that my dad had passed away while on vacation. I still miss him every day. The grief comes and goes, my priorities have changed, but the values he taught me remain strong. Fortunately, I sought to repair my relationship with him during his last decade on earth. During that time, we grew much closer; he shared his fears and concerns and often told me how proud he is of me. The feeling is mutual, Dad. I love you so much. ❤️

My dad never wanted to be paid back for his efforts. He just wanted acknowledgment and for us to pay it forward, and I promise to do that every day. by @rubhatt

Today is my last day at @mlaglobal! After 17.5 incredible years, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all my colleagues, clients, and candidates. It has been a privilege to work alongside some of the most talented recruiters, legal professionals, and attorneys in our industry.

I started at the firm as a cold caller for partner candidates in May 2008, just before the financial crisis a few months later. Since then, I diligently worked my way up to the ranks of partner, navigating market highs and lows along the way.

I have always strived to conduct myself professionally and honorably, and of course, have some fun along the way. This journey, marked by personal growth and achievement, has been made possible by the support and collaboration of this incredible firm. I have aimed to contribute a unique perspective to the legal market while embodying the core values we hold dear.

Working at MLA has been the best job I have ever had. My intelligent and motivated colleagues, clients, and candidates continually inspire me, and I’m grateful for the friendships that have developed, both within and outside the office.

Being part of the MLA partnership was not only a significant milestone for me but also an opportunity to contribute to the growth of our company and to serve as a role model for junior recruiters seeking success. In my partnership acceptance speech back in 2019, I likened the MLA Partners to the Avengers, and that sentiment still holds true. I’m thrilled to have been part of such a dynamic and successful force in the recruiting industry.

The greatest lesson I’ve learned here is that you can pursue excellence while remaining authentic to who you are. Major Lindsey & Africa has shown me that success does not require sacrificing my identity, and I am proud of the journey we’ve shared.

Thank you all for the memories, lessons, and support throughout my time here. I wish you all continued success, and I hope our paths will cross again in the future.

As for what’s next, you’ll learn more about that next week. ;) taken in Manhattan, New York by @rubhatt

My good friend and colleague Andrew Teig and I kicked off NYC Pride Weekend at Selendy Gay PLLC’s annual Pride event at their office. Not only did we hear inspiring remarks from my friends, David Flugman and Temidayo Aganga-Williams, but we were also treated to incredible performances by actors from CATS: The Jellicle Ball, which was one of our favorite shows last year. by @rubhatt

This week marks SEVENTEEN incredible years at Major Lindsey & Africa! From my early days as a junior cold caller to running my desk and becoming a partner in 2019, I've navigated through various market upheavals and experienced it all. A constant throughout this journey has been my passion for connecting with some of the most exceptional attorneys in the world and guiding them toward their career aspirations, supported by top-notch market intelligence. @mlaglobal stands as the top-ranked search firm for a reason, and the lifelong friendships I’ve forged with inspiring colleagues have been a true highlight. It’s a privilege to have my authenticity celebrated while achieving success, and I will always cherish that gift. Though the legal industry may be facing considerable challenges I know we can weather this storm and will strive to continue to deliver the best service possible to clients and candidates. 🫡

P.S. a special shout out goes to @stephbids, my “work wife,” who continues to be the best partner a guy can ask for!

P.P.S. I had to highlight @djrekha, who worked at at @southasianbarny event a while back. Love it when my worlds collide! by @rubhatt

#FlashbackFriday to @mlaglobal’s partner & contest winner retreat in early March at @nizucresort in Cancun one last time.

To be honest I was wary of going to Mexico again so soon after last October’s events but I was met with so much grace and understanding by my colleagues, some who have known me during my entire 17-year tenure at the firm.

What really made it all worth it, however, was being able to host my fellow MLA Outlaws (80% of whom were represented at the retreat!), for a lovely afternoon. We heard our founder, @bobmajor51 share stories from his inception of the firm and discussed various issues all we face in our professional and personal lives.

The legal industry is facing so many challenges at this time, and the importance of community is paramount as we attempt to persevere and endure. I’m so lucky and grateful to have this group of high performers at our firm that I can lean on during tough times and draw inspiration from their success. taken in NIZUC Resort & Spa by @rubhatt

I just returned from a successful NALP week in Cleveland, and I am very hopeful about the legal industry’s future. Stephanie Biderman and I co-hosted a panel with Cristina Attard (Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP) and Peter Van Name (Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz) where we discussed practical tips on filling difficult lateral searches. We also engaged one-on-one with BigLaw and Mid-size law firm clients across the country. A big highlight was attending the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and paying my respects to Madonna!

While the cold and dreary weather mirrored the slight chilling effect on certain public conversations, private conversations I had with many clients strengthened my belief that everyone is doing their best to do the right thing, and we resolve to do the same. Major, Lindsey & Africa is honored to sponsor the Inclusion reception, as we have traditionally done for almost a decade, and it was my pleasure to deliver remarks on behalf of the company (and special thanks to our esteemed president for his eloquent words). by @rubhatt
