Jose. I feel so lucky to have heard from you this year. Life gets busy, and the time in between never mattered; we’d always pick up right where we left off.

I’m lucky enough to have told you the impact you made on my career and how much I valued our friendship. Our industry can be cutthroat, or at least that’s how it felt when I was coming up in it. Very gatekeeping and ego-driven. We shared that self-taught hustle, and I always looked up to you for what you accomplished and how far you went with it. It’s always been inspiring to me!

You provided me with a safe place to ask questions and get solid criticism on my work so I could better my craft. You’d call me out on my shit, but I knew it was how you cared for your people… and that’s the rawness we don’t get enough of in this world.

You taught me how to pierce septums freehand with clients lying down. I got to shadow you and see you work your magic. You brought joy to your clients, took care of them, and educated them. You encouraged me to be a better piercer/person and helped me get better than I was the day before. ✨

Oh, amigo. I’m gonna miss you, and I’m so bummed I hadn’t seen you in a while.

I was thinking about sharing actual stories—like how we met at your shop for my first suspension and how I met my wifey/bf @spayduhdabeezy that same day—but honestly, I think this was the more impactful share from our friendship. I wanted others to read this and somehow be reminded to be kind and helpful, to better this industry. It takes a village of people willing to share and build together. Not gatekeep.

This kind of talk can go forever, but this is just food for thought—a reminder.

I know you’re at peace now, homie. Rest easy and watch over us all. My love and prayers go out to your family and friends, and know that I’ll be thinking of you. ❤️‍🔥🕊️🙏

Here’s a fun lower navel piercing I got to do a few months back I’ve been dying to share. When I do piercings that require a specific anatomy to heal I rarely post initially. I’d rather wait a few weeks/months and share. It’s probably the anxious piercer in me wanting to share things doing well with the right anatomy and efforts, not just fresh 😅🤷🏻‍♀️

I appreciate clients being open to options and not turning down something a lil more creative or out of the norm 🤗

I usually only use my canon for work (piercings and jewelry) which is a lot of macro photography but last month I took it out and got out of my comfort zone at the Chicano Block Party at the Center for the Arts. I’ve used film outdoors in the past and have always loved photography. Using digital camera outside for something like a car show or event in general is super new to me though.

I had a lot of fun messing with the settings more than I usually do and I’m not mad about the results.

For me photography has always been an art, I respect the hustle and creativity. I also cherish any photo that can capture a feeling in time and set you in that space mentally.

Full of gratitude these days. ✨

Young Rubi would be so proud and hella stoked. I’m living fully and authentically, and lately I keep thinking, “What a time to be a woman.”

I’m the first woman in my bloodline to do whatever the f**k she wants. ✨ But it didn’t come easy. It came from my parents’ sacrifice their blood, sweat, tears, and their willingness to build a better life for themselves and our family. I’ll never take that for granted.

Growing up, I carried this culturally ingrained idea that my life had a set timeline: get married, have kids, and follow the same path as the women before me. It felt less like a choice and more like my destiny.

As I got older, I realized I had the freedom to choose a different path… one that felt true to me. That’s something I don’t take lightly. The women before me fought in their own ways so I’d have the opportunity to decide what fulfillment looks like for myself.

Today, I’m grateful for the life I’m building. Maybe it doesn’t look like what I imagined when I was younger, but it feels honest, adventurous, and deeply aligned. And I’m excited to keep following wherever it leads.

Whatever season of life you’re in right now, appreciate it for what it’s teaching you. Nothing is permanent, so be here now.
