Life isn’t all fetch and treat chompees, it’s also training and working hard to be a good dog in the world. We are currently enrolled in classes and training for Competition Obedience - Novice and Fit Dog 2, as well as working towards her Trick Dog Advanced with @americankennelclub . A lot of the skills overlap from one specialty to another, and it’s fun to build those all together! It’s hard work, but it’s worth it. by @ruby.acd

She’s just a babbyyyyyy, a menacing insane diabolical demanding baby…. Who is obviously outraged we didn’t want to play fetch with her at 9pm. Ruby’s witching hour is usually 7-8p where she is our resident asshole…

Here’s an embarrassing video of me poorly throwing a tennis ball to live on the internet forever. We visited our first Sniffspot private park today, and I obviously forgot how huge a full acre all to ourselves would be. Ruby enjoyed the nature and being able to play fetch for a full hour with no other dogs around (she can be leash reactive, also I don’t want her playing with dogs I don’t know), even if I sucked at throwing the ball.

Proof your hard work in new places. It doesn’t have to be training class or pet friendly stores or dog parks. Go to a plaza before it opens, the parking lot of a store after it closes, an empty park on leash, literally ANYWHERE YALL. Just leave your house! New places mean new distractions!

This is not me saying I have a perfectly trained dog. 45% of the time, my cattle dog is a high octane ball of energy that doesn’t have an off switch. But if you only train good manners and obedience at home, your dog’s training will probably go out the door with you as soon as you leave the house. by @ruby.acd

Unpopular opinion: having a high-energy dog is basically a part-time job you never clock out of.

Ruby has absolutely squashed my couch-rot era. Between training, enrichment, dog sports, and keeping this tiny chaos machine mentally stimulated, I get plenty of steps in. It’s been good for me.

BUT CAN A GIRL GET FIVE MINUTES?! 😅

Sometimes I need a break from being my dog’s full-time activities director. @wagandbright Mighty Marrow is one of Ruby’s fav chews- obsessed with the taste, it lasts for days, it isn’t rock hard like some chews, and it’s designed to help clean her teeth.

But here’s the thing nobody talks about enough: dog-mom anxiety when your dog is chewing. 🙃 I love giving Ruby something she enjoys, but the thought of her choking on a chew when I look away for two seconds genuinely stresses me out.

That’s why the @chewiseofficial holder has been such a game changer for us. The metal teeth grip the chew, helping secure it as it gets smaller, so I feel more comfortable letting Ruby enjoy her snack without feeling like I have to stare at her every single second. (Supervision still matters, of course!)

Jurassic park theme song over a cattle dog video just hits so right… because deep down she is a menacing velociraptor 🦖 Today she had her T Rex arms going to properly manage chomping this @jackandpup collagen chew 🤣 Hot take, and I’m sure the internet will come at me, but I regularly give her a size or two larger for chews and bones… they last longer this way and are less of a choking hazard. I do take them away after a bit so she doesn’t down the whole thing in one sitting. by @ruby.acd
