It's been 7 years in the making... but my ebook is finally here. In 2019 I listened to a podcast about writing an ebook and knew that I wanted to write one. But I didn't have a topic... until I heard someone say that it was hard to find good food when they were traveling. I knew that writing about how to eat healthy while traveling was my topic. And it's been the inspiration for this account. The ebook is available on my Substack (link in my profile). I very much want to continue the conversation and chat about tips and strategies for eating while traveling. by @ruby.enjoy.life

She said it was ā€œtoo hardā€ to eat healthy when she travels. But I am here to prove that wrong and strategize with you to make it easier. I also love to find places in Rochester NY that can support your nutritional goals when you visit. #rochesterny #rocfoodies #explorefingerlakes #visitroc by @ruby.enjoy.life

Recently I went on a weekend getaway. 🚊 Yes I totally overpacked on the snacks… and I did even make a stop at Whole Foods when I arrived at my hotel. Part of the reason I choose to stay where I did was that I knew based on previous trips that there was one close by. Perhaps one of the wisdom nuggets of having plenty of snacks is sometimes when you travel your ā€œnormal scheduleā€ isn’t what it usually is. So having something on hand that can tide you over until the next meal can be a life saver. Did I remember to check the weather forecast? Nope šŸ‘Ž (Thankfully someone else did remind me!!) by @ruby.enjoy.life

One of the things I have been doing while traveling is ensuring I eat a consistent breakfast that supports my personal health goals. Last time I went out of town I flew to my destination and stayed in an AirBnB. So I ended up taking a cereal with me. When I got to my destination I knew making a stop at Target would be needed to pick up fresh berries and Core Life high protein beverage. The nice thing about having the Core Life beverage— I was able to enjoy what I didn’t use for my cereal in an iced coffee!!

One of the most important things about traveling and staying nourished is being organized and prepared. I planned ahead with a simple meal, took what I could with me and made a quick stop upon my arrival to get the rest of what I needed. by @ruby.enjoy.life

Road Trip provisions! If you’re a fellow coffee drinker, why not enjoy your coffee and drink it too when you travel? Pick up this duo which includes a 6 pack of glass bottles from Aldi and a package of coffee bags from Trader Joe’s. The bottles hold 8.5 oz each, have metal lids and are reusable. Dishwasher safe without lid. They are the Crofton brand and are priced at $6.99. The coffee includes 4 bags that make 14- 8 oz cups.

The options are endless for making your cold brew… My favorite is a pump of Skinny Mixes Caramel syrup, a dash of caramel coffee creamer from Nut Pods and a packet of Truvia sweetener. Pack it all up with an ice pack in an insulated lunch bag.

Help a fellow traveler out by sharing how you would use these glass containers in your travels. And share how you would make your coffee! by @ruby.enjoy.life

I picked up a package of English muffins to prepare breakfast sandwiches. I added a sausage patty and slice of cheese then wrapped it in foil wrap.

I also picked up a couple iced lattes that will go right inside my cooler bad along with my sandwiches and an ice pack. Easy enough to bring with me and I can stay on track with my food goals.

If you’re visiting the greater Rochester area and want to pick some up for yourself, 10/10 recommend!

If you’re heading on a Church history tour, brunch at Hog and Hen is a must. It’s only a few doors west of the Grandin Print Shop. Today I ordered the burrito which comes with side salad. Family owned and operated, the flavors and creativity of each dish never disappoints.

I’m hopeful that it is possible to find nurishing foods when you visit Rochester NY!

This week I stopped at the grocery store, Wegmans where they have a large selection of cut fruit and vegetables that make it easy to grab something and go. I picked up Clio yogurt bars, a bag of snap peas and a small veggie tray. These things I picked up could very easily be put in a mini fridge if you are staying in a hotel. Or stick them in an insulated bag with some ice if you are heading on a road trip. by @ruby.enjoy.life

Here is a starting place for organizing your food for your next trip. No need to buy new. First stake a look at what you already own or can borrow from a friend.

āœ”ļø Insulated Bag— great for road or train travel. Use caution when traveling by plane since it might count towards your carry on. Maybe getting a smaller bag tucked into a larger one might work. Insulated bags can help keep food cooler! Adding in a small ice pack can help too.
āœ”ļø Containers— great for any trip where you want to bring a prepared meal. There are so many sizes and shapes to fit what works with your goals.
āœ”ļø Water bottle— great for staying hydrated! by @ruby.enjoy.life

There is an element of traveling that can give you some room to rest. A travel agent that I got to know would always say travel can help you relax, refresh and encourage clients to come back rejuvenated. I recently got away and traveled a bit by myself. It was incredibly relaxing to have some time to myself. I purposely left some room in my schedule to be spontaneous and not schedule a ton of things to do. It really was what I needed and wanted to do during this trip. I still had fun and ended up going out to dinner with some friends at a place I’ve wanted to for a long time! We sat outside and enjoyed each other's company over some delicious tacos. The other fun thing I did was visit a store that primarily sells cheese and beverages to go along with them. I ended up finding this place because of a billboard! The fun thing they offered that I picked up was a carry out box filled with cheese, crackers, peanuts, olives, cookies and another little chocolate treat that I don’t even have words to describe. It made for a tasty treat later in the day when it was convenient for me. During the trip I felt relaxed but also came home thankful for a bit of a break out of my normal routine. In the comments let me know: How has travel helped you rest, play and feel rejuvenated? by @ruby.enjoy.life

If you need another opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors, check out Aladdin’s Natural Eatery on Schoen Place in Pittsford. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore and walk along the Erie Canal. If you are looking for other places in this area, there is a Village Bakery location nearby as well as Breathe Yoga! One of the things that I love about Breathe Yoga is they have a cooler of grab and go items that you can enjoy for a meal and snacks. It’s very easy to grab a couple extras for the next few days. If you aren’t in the Pittsford area, there is another Aladdin’s located at 646 Monroe Ave. The Monroe Ave location holds awards for being Rochester’s ā€œBest meal under $10ā€ and ā€œBest Mediterranean Restaurant.ā€ Patrons rave about the freshness of their dishes! by @ruby.enjoy.life
