Sometimes escaping into the perfect forest feels like the perfect sanctuary from the everyday.

I paint for joy and as a meditative practice. I hope my pieces bring my collector’s joy as well.

The Promise of Water
20 x 20
Acrylic on an exhibition canvas

This painting started as another landscape but I could not get the flowers, colour and water drops out of my head, so I gave up and just started covering the water, cliffs and trees with colours and slowly this emerged.

In the lower mainland my gardens were thirsty waiting for the rain and each day (or week) I thought, it’s supposed to rain soon. In the meantime, my usually abundant flowers started giving up. Thank goodness Raincouver came through. The title was, in part, what really inspired this painting.

West Coast Wild
Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

Just sitting on the rocks, looking out at the water.
Summer memories, the Sunshine Coast and a little creative license inspire this painting.

Messy first layers. It took awhile for me to feel comfortable just throwing on paint, and I’m still not loose enough.
I love watching other people paint so I thought I would throw this up for fun. (Some ppl have asked if they could watch me paint😉)
Landscape inspired by the Sunshine Coast!😍
Happy Saturday!

Colour Swatching

Artist friends, I cleaned out my paint drawer to give myself time before I started this new bigger landscape piece.

I did some colour swatching and quickly realized out of the 55 main colour choices I have in heavy body -yes I have more in fluid and high flow acrylics - I mostly use 22 colours and mix and get new colours from those colours. I’ll not be buying more paint for awhile -except from Kroma Acrylics 🥰 on GI because OMG so lovely. Check out how they dry on my swatch card!
I forgot to checkmark the greens. I use the two Hooker’s Greens, and sometimes Sennelier’s Sap Green. I also like to mix greens from CAD yellow and black or raw umber.

Anyways, I’m posting these in case anyone is interested in some colour mixing ideas.
Any other good colour combos for landscapes is always welcome.
I’m using the Kroma Burnt Benzi Orange on trees- it’s wow!

New ‘Into The Woods’ painting

12x12 on gallery depth canvas

Before school starts again and I get busy with teaching and marking essays, I’m getting my fill of painting what I love - gardens, forests and soon some feathered friends.

I like to paint art that makes people happy and has a cool, positive vibe. by @rubyandsmoochdesigns

Two new abstract botanicals. They look like they go together but not necessarily…
12 x 12 Acrylic on canvas.

If you saw my previous reel about the thinking process, you’ll see the steps to how I finally got here.😊
This feels a little less abstracted than I originally thought but they feel happy and hopeful and have a great positive vibe. Maybe that’s their title?
Again, my inspiration is my garden. Right now it’s popping with pinks and white —though the hydrangeas aren’t loving the heat. Stay cool people❤️
